Exhausted and jet lagged I take a cab from the airport wanting to surprise my father and stepmother, Brenda. I can't help but think about Italy and what happened. It's safe to say I've changed. I've had time to relax and think about everything that happened.
As I pull up to my home it's almost like time hasn't past. Everything looks just like how I left it.
I tightly grip my bags not wanting them to fall as I walk to the door. I take in a deep breath not knowing if I've made the right decision coming back home rather than staying in Italy for high school. I convince myself to ring the door bell. Not a moment later a shocked and excited Brenda appears flailing her arms and pulling me into a tight embrace.
"Natalie!" Brenda exclaims. My father runs over confused. I smile widely not knowing what to say. He pulls me close and rocks be back and forth.
"Oh, we have missed you so much," my father says. He takes my bags and brings them into the living room. Brenda gestures me to sit down on the couch. I relax next to her as my father walks over and sits across from me.
"You came back just in time for your junior year of high school," my father states, "for a moment there I thought you would never come back." My father laughs a little but I can tell he was worried I fell to much in love with Italy that I would never return.
"Of course dad I would never leave forever." I say reassuring him. "Now, I have some unpacking to do." I say getting up from the couch with a sigh.
Brenda smiles and says, "Yes of course you must settle in. Make sure to sleep good tonight."
I grab my bags and carefully walk up the stairs. I manage to open the door with both bags in my hands and drop the bags glancing at my room. I walk over to my picture frames of me with my best friends Gaby, since first grade and Nick, who has lives next door to me since first grade. I looked so happy. I let out a huge sigh as I fall onto my bed.
I flip open my cellphone and scroll down to Gaby's contact name and send a quick text.
'I'm back home. Want to talk?'
Doubt she will answer probably still mad that I left without a goodbye. Then I think anita Nick. I wonder if I should call, not like he would want to here from me since I've been MIA all summer. Last moment we had was a huge fight and I'd like to not relive that moment ever again.
I quickly shut off my phone and hop off my bed. I walk towards my window and open the curtain. I look across to Nick's window. My heart stops as I see him making out with Some girl in his bed.
How could I have expected everything to be the same? Life is not a picture and people move on.
