Jeon Jungkook had moved to Seoul after graduating from a police training academy in Busan, his hometown. The raven haired man was looking forward to his job once he discovered he had been assigned to work with the murder investigation unit in a police department residing in the vibrant city of Seoul. His parents, as he had just turned 22, were a bit concerned that the change in cities and atmosphere would be a little too much for him, but they supported his decision to become a police officer.
Jungkook was a neat and tidy person. He liked having an organized schedule and a proper task to set his mind on. Despite looking quite youthful and a bit vulnerable, the man was actually quite strong, and his training in Busan had helped perfect his defensive and offensive techniques in hand-to-hand combat.
It was his first day of work, and he didn't want to be late. He was early, but Jungkook still rushed down the stairs and drove to the nearby coffee shop in a hurry. After ordering his coffee, the man sat down to wait in a booth. He watched as a brunette man, who looked younger than him, ran into the restaurant and quickly sat down at a nearby table.
The brunette pulled out a notebook and began mumbling to himself frantically as he scribbled things down into the paper. Jungkook thought it was weird.
Jungkook, after getting his coffee, got up and started to walk out of the shop, but then a chest hit his own and the other person he bumped into fell on the ground. Luckily, he hadn't spilled his coffee. Taking a look at the person who was now on the floor, he realized it was the man from earlier.
"Ah, I'm sorr-"
Jungkook was interrupted when the man suddenly stood up and ran out the door, dropping a pen along the way. Jungkook shrugged, picked up the pen, and got into his car to drive to the police station.
Walking inside, Jungkook was greeted by the high ranked officers, as well as the leader of the team he would be joining. The murder investigation unit's leader was Kim Namjoon, a level headed man in his mid-twenties. After talking a bit with some other officers, he learned that Namjoon was well respected throughout the department, and had quite an impressive reputation too.
Jungkook was shown to his office area by someone else on the team, Park Jimin, who sat next to him. After setting some of his belongings on his desk, the raven haired man sat down and began talking more with Jimin.
"So, how old are you again, Jungkook?"
"I just turned 22 last month-"
"Yay! I'm your senior then since I'm 24."
Jungkook frowned as Jimin teased him.
"I heard you're from Busan, it's my hometown as well, I miss it a lot, haha." Jimin added, changing the subject as he noticed the younger's slight frown.
"Yeah, my parents are a bit worried that I'm moving away but I think it's also a nice change."
Namjoon and two other men then entered the room, causing Jungkook to look and see who it was. Namjoon motioned for Jungkook to stand up and mouthed that he should introduce himself.
"This is Jeon Jungkook, our new recruit from Busan's police training academy. He is the youngest out of us, and this is his first time working with a police unit. I expect that as his seniors, you can help him learn about how we operate." Namjoon stated as he walked over to the raven haired man, placing his hand on his shoulder.
"Hello," Jungkook bowed, "call me Jungkook. I hope we can get along so please treat me well."
"Wow, so formal!" A giddy yet slightly sarcastic voice called out from the doorway as a brunette man walked in. It was him, the man from the coffee shop. "Sorry I'm late, I got a new lead on a private case I've been working on."
"Oh, good timing. Jungkook, this is Kim Taehyung," Namjoon motioned to the disheveled and messy haired man, whose tie was slightly crooked, "and you two will be working as partners." Jungkook tried his best to hide his frown, and bowed toward Taehyung respectfully. He then sat down quickly, putting his attention back on the team leader.
"Anyways, let's get to work now. We have a new case." Namjoon continued, slapping down a couple files on everyone's desk. Jimin sighed softly as he read through each paper thoroughly.
Jungkook looked at the man across from him, Taehyung, who hadn't even picked up the files and was more interested in eating his lollipop. Taehyung caught Jungkook's stare.
"What? Do you want one or something?" The brunette took out another lollipop from his pocket. Jungkook shook his head as he heard a small snicker from one of the men who came in with Namjoon earlier.
"The victim is Son Yeo-jin, a young woman in her early twenties who worked as a waitress at a hotel restaurant. I expect you to read over the rest of the papers. We have two days to work on this case and arrest the murderer. Let's begin working now."
Taehyung's loud yawn interrupted Namjoon, and he got out of his chair, walking towards the doorway.
"Taehyung, sit down, we don't have time for you to laze around-."
"I'll be back in a couple minutes." Taehyung flicked Namjoon's forehead as he walked out of the room, giggling to himself softly as the team leader sighed.
"Is he usually like that?" Jungkook whispered to Jimin, annoyed with the brunette's nonchalant and overly relaxed behavior.
"Yeah, all the time, except when he's really concentrating. God, his mood changes so drastically that you'd rather have him like this than when he's serious."
"What do you mean?"
"Don't underestimate him, Jungkook. Taehyung is one of the best detectives in all of South Korea, he's a lot smarter than he lets on."
"Oh, I see, okay." Jungkook went back to reading over the papers.
According to some information already gathered by the two men who walked in with Namjoon, the victim had two sisters and an ex-boyfriend. The ex-boyfriend and victim had a rocky relationship according to her mother and other family members. Her body was disposed of in a dumpster near a river.
He learned that the two men's names were Min Yoongi and Jung Hoseok, who supplied the team with information about the case, victim, and other important details. Jungkook also learned that Jin, the team's autopsy and DNA examiner, was currently with the victim's body in the morgue, so he would have to meet him later. The four men who were in the room excused themselves from the raven-haired boy as they had to begin doing their individual work on the case.
A couple minutes after they left, Taehyung was back with a box of small hard candies, popping two inside his mouth as he plopped down into a chair beside Jungkook. Jungkook was about to open his mouth to inform the brunette that they should begin working, however, he was cut off.
"Um, so where do we sta-."
"Hey, Jungkook, was it? Do you like sweets?" The brunette popped another candy into his mouth.
Jungkook was beginning to regret coming to Seoul. He hated the "smart detective", Kim Taehyung, and was not looking forward to working with him in the slightest.
