When I arrived at Anna's house, there were cops asking her mom questions and sirens wailing in the distance but the only thing I could focus on was the occupied body bag being lifted to an ambulance. Ms. Myers looked up and I saw her grief struck face. Tears were running down her cheeks and she wouldn't stop sobbing.
"Ms. Myers?" I asked in a timid voice, "What's going on?"
The police officer she was talking to excused himself and escorted me to the door.
"I'm sorry son," he said in a low voice, "you're not supposed to be here right now."
Ms. Myers slowly walked up to the cop and told him through large sobs that I was called by her.
"He has the right to know." she choked
I felt like vomiting, I've never seen Anna's mom like this. The sirens, police and body bag was too overwhelming. I felt like sprinting out of the house. Away from Ms. Myers, and this overly concerned cop. The whole scene felt like a nightmare.
The cop gave Ms. Myers a concerned look and then turned back to me.
I was on the verge of tears as he said in a lifeless voice,
"Anna Myers was found dead half an hour ago from an overdose. I'm so sorry for your loss."
The world started spinning from under my feet as I saw him looking for my reaction.
"You're not sorry," I said in a whisper, now starting to cry, "you didn't even know her. No one even knew her like I did."
Suddenly, I was running. Her house was shrinking in the distance but I could still hear the sobs and the police cars's sirens. I got into my car at the end of the street and looked at the empty road in front of me. I still couldn't stop sobbing, the person I loved the most was taken away from me.
Anna, how could you do this to yourself?
How could you do this to me?
