*Brooke's P.O.V.*
My eyes fluttered open to the sound of loud, synchronizing beeps. My vision cleared enough to see my mum and Isabel sitting across from me with mum's head in her book and Isabel's in her phone. I took some deep breaths and sat up. I struggled to put my weight on my limp little arms. "Brookie? Honey! How are you feeling?" Mum stooped up and laid her book and reading glasses on the bedside table. I finally realized where I was.
The hospital.
"What is going on?" I stuttered.
"Sweetheart, I'd rather not stress you out more than you already-"
"Tell me! I wanna know now!" I started to shake, and then it progressed so I was shaking like crazy.
"You were leaving school, and someone came up and punched you in the back of your head...you fainted, sweetie everything is okay now, you will be okay." She rubbed my arm but I knocked it off in disbelief. "Don't even bother...Who hit me?"
"Nobody knows..."
I shook and I was in shock, like major shock. I turned my body over as much as possible and looked towards the door, I hadn't blinked in what felt like centuries. As soon as I got comfortable someone knocked on the door. "Come in" My mom yelled. The door slowly swung open and exactly who I wanted to see was at the door. "Hey Sam" I smiled.
"You know him?" Mum asked seemingly very surprised. "He is my new friend from school, he lives next door" I informed her. I thought she would've known our new neighbors by now. "Oh, well nice to meet you Sam" She shook his hand and smiled. "Nice to meet you too miss."
"You can call me Lisa" She suggested. Sam smiled and turned to me. "I saw who hit you Brooke" He sighed and kneeled over by my side of the hospital bed. The side I was turned towards. "Who?" I tried to fit all of my questions into one.
"Jenn" he looked at the door and then back at me.
"What? Why?" I scrunched up my eyebrows and sat up again.
"I don't know." He stood up as the doctor walked in.
"I need all visitors to leave now, I'm sorry, we have to make sure she is safe enough to go home."
Sam waved and left the room silently. My mum kissed my forehead and gradually brushed her fingers down my cheek. "Feel better Brookie." Isabel smiled and followed Mum out.
"How has your head been feeling Brooke?" My eyes darted back to the doctor. I read his name tag and it said Ramon Pottorff...
"Your last name is Pottorff?" I question.
"Ha-ha, Yes it is." He chuckled while messing with it. He looked really young, too young to be a doctor. "I have a friend with the last name Pottorff" I still wanted some answers if there were any. "My Brother Sam, he just left aye?" I laughed. "Yeah why didn't you say hi?" he was checking my blood pressure now.
"It's complicated." I looked at him with concern-filled eyes.
I shrugged. "Looks like your good to go!" He clapped his hands in a playful way which I found hilarious. "Thanks Ramon" I exaggerated the last part.
Mum came back in with Isabel and they helped me up. It was easier to stand then I thought. I was very tired though. During the drive home no one really talked. It was a strange silence.
We pulled up and I got out by myself. I didn't recognize this at first but then it hit me. We moved. I took a deep breath and sighed. Mum opened the door and turned on the lights, which was unsettling because it had been gloomy and rainy all day. "I really want to sleep mum." My mouth spoke before my brain could process it. Wow, I really must have been hit hard.
Right before I drifted asleep, there was a knock at my bedroom window. I jerked up half asleep and tip toed towards the window. I looked down and there was someone down there. I couldn't see their face but I felt like I knew them. I slipped on my slippers and sweatshirt and went down to the front door. I opened it up and walked outside and around the corner, so I was just below my window.
"Hello?" I turned around only hearing the sound of leaves rustling. I jolted at the sight of an all black hoodie.
"Who are you!?" fear spread across my face and throughout my body.
The guy in the black hoodie ran past me pushing me to the ground. I grasped the ground beneath me and pulled myself off, brushing off the mud that now stained my pajama pants.
On the ground next to me I found a note card with writing.
'Find me Saturday at 8:15 sharp at 12367 Trout Drive. If you don't show you will be sorry. Don't bother calling the police, or telling your parents because if you do...I will make sure you never see them again. - Your secret admirer*
