NIGHT SCARE'S
Kara's head was hung, hiding the dusty array of freckles on her cheeks, and she had her muscular back to me. She was in one of her moods today the ones were I want to shake her like a drink. "You know, Kara, you should't feel so bad" I say coming up behind her even though shes a little pissed and might rack me ... again. "If we don't kill them they will kill us and most of humanity, Ukiao have no mercy for anybody even their own kind." I for one cant believe were having this conversation again she's the one that got me into this. She's the only reason I stayed. And of course by this I mean our little operation of killing the Ukiao demons. "I know " she finally replies, "but think of it as I do they were once human" saying this she turns her head to me her huge emerald eyes, innocent and sad. Giving an exasperated sigh I agree " Yes, I suppose your right."maybe she'll be better after a nice walk in the frigid New York air. " Come on no point in arguing more, lets go for a walk." Walking past me toward the door she said " come on lets go I think it will do my head good." Half way out the door she yells back "GET YOUR COAT". Jeez, I bet the neighbors think she's my mother.
" You know I am older than you, yet you give me orders" I say wrapping an arm around her. "Hahaha" " yes but I'm prettier and smarter" she counters. Well shes right about that with those eyes and her brown hair framing her face there's only one word for her , beautiful. Walking down main street Kara stiffens so I stop moving. She turns down an alley so all I can do is follow. Looking back she gives me a 'be careful or ill kill you' look. So I smile and nod for her and for me because its so wonderful how she thinks of my safety when shes in danger too.
Outta no where I figure out what's going on with Kara's senses because a guy jumps me and starts snapping at my neck and head. Kara comes throwing well aimed punches and hits him in the nose and groin. He jumps on her and a girl comes lumbering at me, screeching. One thing you'd have to know about Ukiao is that the females are tougher and stronger than the males. So I grab my sword, a new Katari, that Kara bought me, out of it holder on my back. Swinging it with a soft whoosh I chop her head clean off. The smell is horrible a mix of rotten cheese and human blood, irony in a way. Choking I run to help Kara, but she doesn't need help I realize, shes fine, holding her own against the full grown male that jumped me earlier. She uses her staff like a pro finally she connects with his groin and as he drops to the ground she turned her staff into an ax with the quick push of a button and decapitates him. Both the male and female burst into a green powder, it tries to find its way into my nose, then blows away.
" Darn Kara I forgot about your mad skills with a staff or any stick for that matter remember when you hit me square in the jaw with the limb off that old spruce" a voice says behind us. "Seems like your boyfriend here is kind of useless standing around watching you do all the work." Turning around I see a petite girl around Kara's age maybe a little younger, with silvery-blond hair and brilliant blue eyes. Swinging around, eyes huge Kara screams " CLOVE HOW?.... WHEN?....Uhhhh" sputtering she runs and tackles the girl. Clove... now were have I herd that name before... Clove, wait, could this be Cloveria, Kara's sister? "Ecm" I fake cough for attention, pathetic I know. " Oh River, I'm sorry. meet Clove ... my sister" she says pausing for emphasis. "nice to meet you" Clove says politely, before I can, then under her breath to Kara "super cute.. definite keeper, even if he is useless." I start to blush when Kara comes to my rescue" hey your what 14 now meaning he's two years older than you back off, besides hes not my boyfriend." "so smarty pants that makes him what .. 16 if you have a point please raise it" Clove replies with a sour bite. I realize I like her already and that there is an unmistakable resemblance to her sister in her face.
Looking down at my clothes and Kara's clothes I see the green marks and splatters of Ukaio blood. Winking at Clove I announce my realization " hey you know we both rely nee.." that's when we hear the blood curtailing screams.
