From the moment the irritating buzzing of the alarm penetrated her peaceful sleep, Lauren knew exactly how her day was going to go. In fact, she could see it all playing out in her mind, a cross between a hazy montage and a surreal vision. It was too predictable.
Stepping into the shower, she ignored the usual twinge of self consciousness and focused on scrubbing her short hair.
Buttoning up her shirt, she shot a glance at the full length mirror, which was turned around to face the wall. She let out a sigh.
Finally, she hopped down the stairs and into the kitchen, smelling the toast her mum had been buttering groggily.
   "Morning Mum," she chirped brightly.
"Morning Nick" replied her mum. Of course, that was the thing. Lauren was of course, a girl. However, this was a secret to... 99.999% of the world? Yeah. "Don't forget your pe kit," her mum continued, "and I don't want you getting anymore detentions today!" she added firmly
"Okay..." Lauren sighed, grabbing a piece of toast and taking a bite. "Bye!" She mumbled with a mouth full of toast, heading out the door.

The crisp January air nipped at her ears so she quickened her pace, hurrying to the bus stop, eager to find warmth. Once settled in her seat on the bus with her earhones plugged in, ignoring the younger kids throwing their rubbish at her, she put on some music. From The Sun by Unknown Mortal Orchestra.

Isolation, can put a gun in your hand
It can put a gun in your hand
It can put a gun in your hand
If you need to, you can get away from the sun,
You can get away from the sun
You can get away from the sun
