It's nine years later. Aaron is now 18. This is when children in his village get given a job. The job is to go out in the world and protect people from monsters that attack people. Bethany and Aaron sit next to each other in the ceremonial auditorium. Aaron gets called up first. When you are called up you go up and choose a friend to go with you on your adventures. Of course, Aaron chose Bethany. Now, Aaron is going to get chosen, by fate, his "job". Bethany will have the same happen to her. Aaron starts to get nervous. He goes up to a chalice and reaches in. He pulls out a piece of paper. The paper reads, "Dragoon". Suddenly, next to him, there are glowing runes on the ground. A second later, a little dragon appears. This dragon is now Aaron's. Now, Bethany is up next. She reaches in the chalice and pulls out a slip. The slip reads "Red Mage". Briefly the host of the ceremony tells them the description of their job. Dragoon has the ability to control a dragon and the dragon will help you fight. The red mage is a mixture of white and black magicks. White magic is healing while black magic controls elements. Bethany and Aaron are cast out of their village, never to return except if their partner dies.
