Chapter 1

The Mission

(Nicos POV)

“I need you two to go on a rescue mission,” Chiron said. About five minutes earlier Id woken up to a sound at my door. It had been Will, coming to say Chiron wanted to talk to us. After all of the stuff that had happened with Apollo, I really wanted at least 4 days of peace. I mean, the guy left yesterday. But back to reality…

“Why me”, Will asked. “I’m just a healer’ and speaking of which we need help in the inf-” Before will could finish his sentence,  Chiron cut him off. “I requested you two because you seem to work together well. And besides Mr. di Angelo, I think you have something in common with this new demi-god if I am correct.” Great, I thought to myself. Someone else who thinks I’m a freak.

“Where's this new demigod at,” I asked, half annoyed and half intrigued. What did Chiron mean? “California. Nico you'd have enough energy to transport you and Will to the spot but not enough to carry the three of you back, so you'll have to find a way to get back yourselves.”  The kid probably wouldn't even let me touch them, let alone travel thousands of miles with them. At least Will was going. I sighed “Fine, we'll leave after breakfast”. And I left without another word. I didn't mean to be rude, but I seriously doubted that the demigod would like me. I heard Will jogging to catch up with me. He immediately started talking about said demigod. “Maybe they're a child of Athena or Aphrodite or Apollo or-” he cut himself off with a gasp. “Maybe the demigod will be a sibling of yours!” The idea was so stupid that i laughed. So hard in fact that the campers around me started giving me dirty looks . I didn't think Wi was serious. But when I looked back at his face there was a slight hint of hurt in his eyes, and I immediately scolded myself for laughing at him. “You're right it's a stupid idea” Will walked away, so fast that i didn't even see where he went. Usually Will didn't get his feelings hurt so fast, so I must have laughed pretty hard.

Stupid, I thought to myself. First Chiron and now Will. I eventually push everyone away. The entire time i was looking for Will would have been used to eat but I needed to find Will and apologize.

I finally found his by Thalia's old pine tree, talking to Peleus. He stopped talking right when I was in earshot. I sat down beside him and stared into the distance. “Look I’m sorry. I know I’m -” “An arrogant douche? . A selfless d bag? Yeah I know that already.” “Geez I’m sorry!” “You're adorable when you get defensive.” I blushed and said “I am not adorable. I’m the ghost king. Fear me.” Will smiled and kissed me on the cheek.We stood up as Chiron walked over to us, followed by Kayla and Austin.

“Are you ready to go”, Chiron asked as Kayla handed Will and extra bag of supplies. “I hope so” Will replied, the usual hopeful smile on his face. “It is important that this we igod is brought back safely to camp.” I wondered what was so special about this demigod. Oh well. After a few goodbyes and hugs (which were from Will of course) I grabbed his hand and we disappeared into the shadows.
