The girl sat, leaning against the bedpost as she ran her fingers down the intricate wooden designs absentmindedly. The floral patterns danced across the timber and across the sheets, forming a garden like scene to mirror the riches of the country.
A bed worthy of the Princess of Spring.
The sudden banging on the door broke the tranquil silence of the empty room. The princess stood up abruptly, hurriedly smoothing the lavender folds of her dress as door slammed open. A young boy stepped through the door closely followed by his butler. As usual, his handsome features were contorted by his sour expression which rarely left his face. Letting out a sigh of relief, the princess dropped onto the bed.
"It's just you."
The boy glared at her, clearly offended by her deprecation. His body shook with rage as the girl gazed on amused. His teeth clenched, his features reflecting his intense rage at the female before him.
"I am so sorry my dear brother, Prince Gilroy." She remarked in a bored sarcastic tone. Surely he knew, he wasn't the only one who had a bad day. She glanced at him indifferently as the boy turned red with anger, waiting for him to calm.
"What do you want?" She watched impatiently as another wave of fury seem to roll through her brother. His presence had greatly disturbed the serene atmosphere.
"Father has summoned you." The words were forced through his teeth with great difficulty as his struggled to contain himself.
Irritation crossed her features upon hearing the words.
"Why?"
Her brother didn't seem to be pleased either.
"Like I care," he growled, his temper rising.
The princess glared at him, her irritation building. She didn't like the tone he used. She was older after all. "Tell father, if it's about what her said yesterday, I'm not interested."
Gilroy's pale face seemed to go red with anger.
"Go tell him yourself." he spat viciously. Then, he turned and stomped childishly out of the room slamming the door.
There was another knock on the door. Judging from the fact that there was knocking and the fact that the door wasn't slammed open, Gilroy didn't come back. She doubted her mother would come now either. It was getting late. "Enter," she called. The door opened slowly, revealing a girl with long black hair. A large smile automatically spread across the princess's face, as all her irritation from the day was washed away momentarily at the sight of her best friend.
"Princess Seraphina, you called?"
Seraphina grinned back happily as Maria raised an eyebrow and looked back at the hallway.
"Prince Gilroy?"
Seraphina scoffed. "More like snobbish, annoying brat."
Maria smiled closing the door gently, "What did you want your highness?" She asked respectfully.
The princess made a face. "Stop it. There's no one here. Besides, we're friends so who cares about the formalities. "
The other girl hesitated for a brief moment before smiling. "I guess your right, Seraphina."
Seraphina grinned, motioning for her friend to sit with her as she plopped down onto the floor. Making her way to the centre of the room, Maria frowned. "I don't mind the floor, but Seraphina, I think you should sit on the bed. The queen said it was inelegant."
The Princess sighed dismissing her friend's reminder. "It's not like mother is here now," she mumbled, pouting.
Maria sat down looking at her friend disapprovingly. "Seraphina. I also think you should sit on the bed."
Seraphina ignored the statement. Pausing for a second, her face becoming serious.
"Father wants me to be the heir to the throne." she stated.
There was a long silence as the princess regarded her friend's shocked face, waiting for her reaction.
After a minute Maria spoke. "Look Seraphina, I'm happy for you, I just never expected this. I thought that the throne was going to Prince Gilroy. Besides why now? His majesty the king is still young."
The princess let out a frustrated sigh. "He makes it sound like he's gonna die or something! He keeps saying that Gilroy isn't suited for the job. But you think I am?! I don't want this Kingdom!" She was now up and pacing the room. "But now, he won't stop bugging me! He's been calling me down every single day!" She stopped, taking a deep breath.
Maria was troubled, not knowing what to say. She was brought back to reality by Seraphina's voice.
"I'm running away."
Maria's head snapped up as she stared at her friend incredulously. "Sorry?" Seraphina was standing at the window, staring ast her friend, a wild look in her eye.
Maria didn't know why her friend had made such a sudden and unwise decision.
But her devotion to her friend, her devotion to her princess, didnt allow her to refuse when Seraphina said,
"Let's go on an adventure together."
