The two hooded figures stood in the street. Other than the dim light coming from the lamps they were holding, it was completely dark. Soon it would be dawn. The taller one chuckled, breaking the eerie silence. The other shushed the first. "Seraphina, quiet!" she whispered.

The taller figure struggled. "Relax a bit, no one saw us." She laughed, as they continued to walk down the street. Neither spoke for a while, until Seraphina stopped. "Maria, let's go to the gate." The too had snuck out of the castle with no plan. The security in the castle hadn't been tight. Maria hesitated. It was probably wise to go to the gate. If they stayed in spring, they were bound to be found. The sun was beginning to rise. "Okay," she answered.

Seraphina turned, looking at the silhouette of the castle. She knew that one day, she would come to regret this decision, but right now, she felt a need to get away. This was right. When she left, Gilroy would be heir instead. She would come back after some years, when the decision became official. Silently, she farewelled her friends and family living in the castle. She would miss them. As she turned away, a smile graced her face. She was going on an adventure now.

Maria had remained silent as her friend stared at the castle. She wondered if what she was doing was right. Had her devotion to her friend and princess led her to make the wrong decision? Should she have stopped her? Had her youth blinded her sight? But she knew what was done was done. They were out of the castle. She hoped that Seraphina would decided to return in a few months time. She had no questioned her princess. It was not her place. She had not farewelled her family, but nor had the princess. She silently prayed that her mother would be able to look after her four year old brother properly. Wherever the princess was going, she would follow. As long as she was with her, she would let no harm come to her. She had long since vowed to protect Seraphina with her life. She followed Seraphina as she turned around. She would follow her to the ends of the Earth.
