"Souls, the very culmination of one's being, whether you're monster or human. Souls come in a wide variety of colors that never seems to end, and across different universes, an even more vast possibility of soul colors to have different meaning. For depending on the color and form of life it comes from, a trait is named for that very body. There are seven common human souls, Bravery, Justice, Kindness, Integrity, Patience, and Determination. However, these are not the limit. Every new child is created with a chance for a new soul trait to appear. That is what we study here at my lab, so feel free to ask any questions." The person speaking was a certain skeleton, a bit stocky, and for what ever the reason, wore a pair of glasses in front of his eye sockets that held little white pupils. His mouth forever formed a smile, and his outfit consisted of a cliché lab coat.

In front of him was a crowd of children, monsters and humans alike. Not a single pair of the children looked the same. One small, armless, reptilian-like child started jumping up and down to signify that he wished to be called on. "Yes, you there." The skeleton pointed his boney finger to the child, curious to know what information he sought to learn. "You said and even other universes. Does that mean you study that stuff too?" The skeleton let out a soft chuckle before answering the child. "No, I'm afraid not. Besides, multiple universes is just a theory that is a work in progress."

The child lowered his head, a little disappointed to hear that. Another child, this time a human female, raised their hand. "How do we get to see a soul?" The skeleton pushed his glasses further into his face to adjust them. "Well, as a child like yourself, it's sad to say you may not posses the ability yet to call out your soul. Usually, only on the rare occurrence that a child contains within themselves a particularly powerful soul for their body, can they reveal their soul to the rest of the world on their own. Till you grow a little bit older, I'm afraid to say that your souls haven't matured enough to exist outside your body."

"I bet I could do it!" "No, me!" The entire class started to uproar into over excited kids, all thinking that they may be able to summon their soul out from their body. A tall goat-like monster started doing her best to calm them down and move them on into the next part of their tour. The skeleton withheld his laughter and maintained his position till every last child was absent from the room. He let out a sigh through his teeth, walking over to a counter where a mug of black coffee was waiting for him. He started taking a swig from it, when a voice behind him spoke up. "H̵͘a̷̶v͡í̴͟ng f̀͞͝u̴͝n̛͟,̢ Sc̡̕͡i͞?͞" It was deep, broken sounding, and yet hardly seemed to startle him. He simply set down his coffee and turned around to another skeleton, one a little more round than himself, but around the same general size.

This one, however, had a black frame, jacket, slippers, and basketball shorts, with a red shirt, eyes, and what looked to be blue tear lines running from the eye sockets to down the cheek bones. "Funny. And what do I owe the pleasure to having an audience with the great world destroyer himself, Error?" The black skeleton, presumably known as Error, closed his eyes and leaned back against a counter with his hands in the air. "Wha̴t̸̢? C̷̡à͠n̶'t̴̨ I̢҉ j͏u̡̨̡s̛t d̨̕r͝ó̷͟p͞ b́͟y to s͜a̢͝y H̛͜͢e̸͢l̨͘l͡o̢?́͟" "Not typically without some sort of end game in mind. Allow me to share my hypothesis. You're here because of my new invention, is that right?" Error returned his hands to the pockets of his jacket. " T̵̕͜h̛͝á̷͏t̴̨͘'͏s̴̕͝ A͞ prȩt͠͏̢t͝y g͡͠o̧͜o̡̕͞d̷̛ gue̡͢s̴̨s" "And yet Ink's not keeping his usually tight leash on you? I'd love to hear how you managed that."

Sci raised an eye socket to this. "Doesn't seem like a fair trade." " I h̢̀͘av̛́͞e̸̡ T̷̕͞ǫ͠ a̧̛͟d͡m̡̡i̸t͘, i͟t̛͜͡ iś́͝n͢'̕͟t,̡̨ b̴͝ut I͞'͝͏m͝ j̀͞us͏t͝͝ A͡s͏͝ c̨u̧̕ŗi͢͟o̷u̸͡͝s as͠͡ t̶͝ḩ͢e̷̵͠ ń̕e̢x̡̕t̶̵͝ g͡u͡ỳ̕͢ a̛b̷͞ou̸͘t̀̕ t̸̶͢h̢i͡ş t̛h̵͏įn̡g̷͢.́"

The two skeletons chat for a while after that before finally Error decided to leave. It wouldn't be until another month that they would meet again, as well as a few more.

(a/n: Heyo guys, Chronigma here! Just wanted to take a short moment to say, I'm excited for this first ever Undertale fanfiction. I know this chapter's a bit short, but bare with me as it's only the prologue. This project is yet another one being worked on by me and my brother, and it may be a little while before you see the next chapter. We do kinda have like 5 other stories as is, not to mention our horrible writing schedule. With that being said, I'll see you guys later!)
