Genavive and Christine were running towards the school gates.

"08:57" Christine gasped

"Shit!"

Yeah, well an accurate response considering that their test was scheduled for 9 am.

While crossing the security depot, Christine glanced at Kyle and gave him a soft smile before continuing to run.

Kyle is the name of the security guy who Christine is hooking up with. "A mutual understanding" she calls it.

Genavive was trying to catch her breath while she said, "Bro, I don't think Red Bulls work at all."

Christine glanced at her from the side, "Yeah, no shit! With the gallons of caffeine in my body right now, I shouldn't be able to fall asleep until next year!"

Genavive laughed and coughed at the same time. "We are almost there!"

1 minute to go....

They've punched in their fingerprints and walked into the school. They kept all their things in the locker and grabbed only the essentials needed for the test. However, by the time they reached their class, students had already begun answering the paper.

"Damnit!" Christine murmured.

The teacher, Mrs. Karlos, noticed them and asked, "I'm disappointed to see the two of you late for the test!"

Before Christine could speak up, Genavive looked at Mrs. Karlos and said, "Sorry Mrs. Karlos! Won't happen again."

Under normal circumstances, students would have given an excuse after saying sorry, but Genavive knew better. She had just applied one of the many things that her mother had taught her: If you are truly apologetic you will never lay more emphasis on the excuse than the act of apologising itself.

Mrs. Karlos contemplated letting them in but seeing the look on their faces and noticing that other students taking the test were getting distracted by the situation, she nodded and handed them the test papers.

"You aren't getting extra time so make sure you finish it within the time frame."

Christine sighed but Genavive just smiled and whispered a "thank you" to Mrs. Karlos. When she went to take her seat, she noticed someone sitting in the seat next to hers.

Genavive and Christine didn't sit next to each other during Physics. Because of her below average scores in Physics, Christine had been assigned a peer tutor authorised by Mrs. Karlos.

Agatha, Christine's peer tutor, and Christine sat together during class. It was only when Agatha was skipping class that Genavive got to sit next to Christine; otherwise, Genavive sat alone.

The class arrangement was such that there was an extra pair of desks at the back of the class because there were odd number of students in this class. Genavive occupied one of the seats and the one next to hers was always empty unless someone wanted to take a nap during class.

But suddenly, here was someone sitting in the seat next to hers, who she did not recognise. The closer she walked towards him, the more his features attracted her. He was slouching over the desk while he was writing the paper, his dark hair covering his features.

When Genavive reached closer to her desk, she still couldn't take her eyes off of him. There were invisible magnetic forces at play here and she was letting herself enjoy the view. She even noticed him shuffle in his seat and his eyes shift from the paper to his left, to her.

He knew he was being watched, he felt Genavive's gaze on him but he kept his eyes down. He'd had enough girls eyeing him and blatantly checking him out and this was only the first period!
