Lizzy's POV

We walked into the band room joyfully, as always. It was a Wednesday. A very rainy and cold Wednesday. Perfect for staying inside and playing all day.

"C'mon campers get everything together!" Mr K would shout.

We all put our backpacks up into the loft thing and carried our instrument cases to our set up spots. I went to the far corner of the room. The usual trombones were there, chattering away and setting up. It was Juan's second day back in band and he carried his huge Bari Sax case over my head to get into the spot in front of me.

Everybody goofed around, percussionists falling behind us and the distant playing of "Careless Whisper" by Matt and Luke R.

I quickly grabbed a stand before they were all taken, and shuffled through the row to get to my seat.

As I sat down, there was the usual bickering over who's in the seat next to me between Amaya and Luke S.

"Luke get out of my seat, I changed the deal," Amaya argued.

"Nah," Luke replied stupidly.

Amaya sat down next to me, defeated. Everybody was seated, waiting for the morning announcements to begin. People talked and giggled, the occasional playing, followed by Mr K's usual, "NO."

Jackson, as usual, walked in late. Jackson usually came during or after the announcements, therefore his somewhat early arrival was unusual. Jackson, however, was disheveled and didn't have his instrument or folder. Nothing unusual there.

The weak teen was out of breath and behaving oddly. Jackson just stood there, in the doorway, with a horrified expression. Just like a crappily built building during an earthquake, Jackson fainted.

Everybody was silent. Mr K and a few others rushed over.

"Aidan, call the office. Now," Mr. K demanded of the tall lanky boy.

As Aidan reached for the phone, it began to ring. Aidan looked blankly at it. Mr K gave Aidan the pick-it-up-already face.

As Aidan pulled the phone to his ear, he recited, "Uhh, A-2?" as if he had forgotten and was looking for reassurance.

"There's nobody talking," Aidan said. Suddenly, a screech could be heard, surprisingly audible from my vantage point, and also a distant scream coming from the direction of the office.

Everybody jumped. Aidan tried phoning the office, but to no avail. That's when the announcements came. As usual, Paul stood up for the pledge. I, however, did not. The pledge didn't come. Instead, the morning announcements were replaced with white noise. Everybody looked around, confused.

More screams could be heard, from all over the school. After a few moments, Mr K put it upon himself to seek out help for Jackson.
