Ten days ago my best friend moved to Planet KY48. Yes, that's right. Another planet. Our whole lives, we were neighbors living on Planet ME714, then his parents took up and left.
I've known William since we were both babies. We would play together in the sand box, and he was the first person who shortened my name to 'Anna'. When one of us had to be babysat, they'd just be dropped of at the other's place. We grew up having sleepovers and pranking people together.
"Hello, this is Madam Winkerstat! You must bring me a large cheese pizza!" William's last prank call on this planet rang in my ears. We'd called from the airport, hiding in the men's bathroom. My parents had yelled at me until their voices went for going in there, but it was worth it. Then my best friend of thirteen years had stepped onto a shuttle, and left me forever. We'd promised to write, but who knew how long he'd want to do that? Willam would probably make new friends and forget about me. I sighed and pressed my nose against my bedroom window, fogging part of it up.
It was cold out tonight. The street in front of my family's little house was barren, except for rubbish blowing around and a mean looking cat. The house across the street, which used to be William's, was empty. None of the old lights shone out of their bright green home, and I couldn't hear the laughter that normally drifted over. God, I missed him.
In the room next door to me I could hear my parents laughing and my sister squealing at something on the television. Idiots. The only friend I had ever been close to had just left me forever, and they were out there making a joyful ruckus. Smells of a TV dinner filled the house, and I sighed again. Why couldn't my parents just cook like a normal family?
I walked through my drab room. Gray comforter, iron bed, white walls, wood dresser and desk. A picture of William and I hung on the wall as my only decoration. Somehow, this place had seemed so fun when he was here. I went to the desk and took out a sheet of paper and my pen. William had to be there by now, right?

Dear William,
I miss you so much! This place is so boring and stupid without you. My parents are doing their same old-same old, boring, TV centered things. My sister is learning their ways from them. I have no one to do anything with.
Too much of me moping though. How are you? Have you gotten to go to your new school yet? Anyone nice? I wish we could communicate electronically between planets. Do you like your new house? What's it like? Tell me eveything!
Love,
Anna
