Chapter One-
I can't feel anything, but I haven't really been able to feel anything for years.
Candy floss; that time at the Wickomby circus seven years ago, when I was ten, I felt excitement...
That's the last time I remember feeling anything.
Anything.
Every moment leading up to me standing on this bridge, has been an emotionless silence.
My tip toes are gripping onto the warm metal bars of a bridge nearby my school, I should be there but I don't feel anything. For years I've been doing exactly what's expected from me and I don't have any drive to be rebellious and I don't have any drive to do better. So today I have lost the point of the dart.
My fingers are comforting themselves behind me as I lean forward off the yellow bridge, only my fingers keeping me up.
It's a sunny Tuesday, I want to die.
I slowly let my little finger uncurl itself from the bar and breath in the fresh air. No cars have passed under since me being here...strange.
All at once I loose or gain the strength in all my fingers to let go.
"Melissa!" The bone in my neck clicks backwards as i tumble back over the ledge, Dallas grips me tight in her sporty biceps.
"Melissa, what's this about?" This was the first time my best friend had asked me a question for months. She kind of got used to me not answering after a while.
The doctors say I'm a mute, I don't talk.
"Melissa!" She repeats, grabbing my chin to look into her brown eyes.
I just stared, after giggling my teeth and tongue around stopping myself from whaling out in tears.
"You're broken again" she confirms, after scanning my eyes and pushing back my hair. "C'mon lovely, lets get you somewhere safe. You need help."
Dallas had put it on herself to be a mother to me since my mum died six years ago. Dallas was always great to me, her family were less helpful, but Dallas never failed to be a shoulder to cry on; even though there were never any tears.
She stabled my arms next to my sides and took hold of my shoulder, walking me back towards school. My feet came to a stop and I refused to carry on any further.
"Oh, i'm taking you to the hospital, not back to that shit hole don't worry!" She laughs through some tears she'd been keeping in.
I looked at her with stone in my eyes and carried on walking.

The hospital was a second home to me, I was constantly visiting doctors and things. We both stopped outside of the glass doors to face each other.
"Okay Melissa, I'll speak for you if you like- but if they end up wanting to keep you somewhere for observations you're going to have to talk" with these words I flinched out of the hands she'd been squeezing my shoulders with. "Melissa, you need help, I'm your best friend and I love you and I just want to see you smile again..." We turned back to the doors and she curled her fingers with mine...together we walked into my second home.
