I made this book when I was 13 and quite sad. I am now older and a lot more happy. This book is currently being edited and I hope I can improve it, as what else can you do nearly 2 months into lockdown?

Always remember, you are amazing. I'm here if you ever want to talk :)

She walked the high school corridors in silence, not paying much attention to what she was passing or where she was walking, as long as it lead her to the gates of freedom.

Her bag pulled on her shoulder, the swishing of its contents as it banged against the back of her leg being heard faintly over the sounds of her footsteps. The corridors were oddly barren and void of people. In the distance she heard a congregation of youngsters laughing in high pitched tones as they ran to their next class, definitely late.

She twirled a strand of her light blonde hair with her index finger. She knew she shouldn't be skipping class, yet she also knew she couldn't stay in this place. As she turned a corner, she stared at the ground, not taking any notice to where she was going.

One step.

Two steps.

Three ste-

She suddenly bumped into something hard and gasped. She had not been expecting herself to trip, nor fall into the arms of a stranger. She had just been staring at her old grimy shoes that had too many holes in them to count on her two hands.

"I'm so sorry," a deep masculine voice apologised, and she discovered that the stranger was a man. She peered into the face of a young man with curly blonde hair, and a straight nose framed by two bright blue eyes. Time seemed to freeze, as if the world's batteries died momentarily.

He looked into her eyes for a heartbeat too long, his hand still holding onto her waist. Stephanie had never seen a man so beautiful that she nearly forgot to breathe under his charming gaze.

Realising that she was staring at him, she blushed slightly. She looked to the ground and saw a mess of stray sheets of paper and books scattered all over the floor. She swiftly moved away from him and tried to hide her burning face with the curtains of her hair.

"It was my fault. I wasn't looking, " she apologised, crouching down on the ground to pick up the scattered sheets and books. One of the books she recognised as a book her mother would read to her at night. She smiled to herself while her hand rested on the book's delicate cover. It was 'Harry Potter,' a book that she adored as a child. Her father had liked it too, and she had found it one day on his desk when he did work in his office.

That all seemed like such a long time ago. She blinked back tears and forced her thoughts to the back of her brain. Now wasn't the time to cry.

"You like Harry Potter too?" he was staring at her intently, almost like she was a book he was trying to read. A look crossed his features, but in the blink of an eye it was gone, replaced with a charming smile that tugged at the corner of his lips.

She nodded in response and retracted her hand from the cover, missing the smooth material and the happy memories the book contained.

"You're Stephanie Cain, right?" He asked her. A small bead of sweat trickled down his forehead, and he jumped his weight from foot to foot.

She stood frozen in her place.

"I'm Mike," he stretched his hand out for a handshake, not letting her respond. His warmth enveloped her. All of her instincts were telling her to run, that a man she had never met before knew who she was.

Yet for some reason she didn't bolt. Maybe it was the way he looked at her, his lips stretched into a wild grin. He looked so happy to meet her, and if she was being honest with herself, she missed human interaction more than she realised.

And anyway, what would an innocent amiable young man who beamed with enthusiasm want from her?

He offered her a grin before gathering all of his belongings on the ground.

"Shouldn't you be in class?"

"Shouldn't you?"

"I'm running some errands for Ms. Bagel, which involves bringing these books to the library," he explained, motioning towards the books in his grasp.

She didn't even know there was a library in the school. She made a mental note of checking it out sometime soon. Maybe she would be able to find more Harry Potter books.

"I'm going home.. I don't feel well," she told him truthfully.

He stared at her for a few seconds before Ms. Bagel called to him from the end of the corridor, screeched a quick "goodbye," and ran away.

Stephanie nearly laughed at his sudden departure. She mentally locked his face into her memory. He had been kind to her, even if he had bumped into her, and kindness meant a lot.

She continued walking, but stopped when she stepped on rubbish. The school was notorious for its dirty corridors infested with overflowing garbage cans, and sometimes random pieces of fruit in the corners.

Out of curiosity, she picked it up and what it said nearly caused her brain to swallow itself.

"Find Stephanie Cain or suffer the consequences - D."

"Oh hell no," she muttered as she realised what the words meant. This cannot be happening.. again, she thought.

She stuffed the note into her jeans' pocket and bolted down the hallway she had just been walking through and made it to the exit door. Her legs protested beneath her as she ran far away, with no clear destination in mind.
