You're standing at the edge of an island, a small island, and staring down through the clouds. From where you stand you can't see much except for the water gently swaying below you. Your particular island is only floating a half mile above the water but still the clouds and mist below you do a very good job of obscuring your view. .... Silence, everywhere. You're too far up to hear the water or the splashing that you had hoped for. The only sound you can hear is the faint sound of air as the cold wind whips your long brown hair into tangles. You stroke it back with shaking fingers as you try to absorb what had happened. He'd looked so confident, so happy... You keep looking down. Why? You sit down on the edge of the island and think about how it would feel to hit the water from this height. You'd heard that jumping from this high feels like jumping onto concrete. Was that how it had felt? You take a few strands of hair between your fingers and twist it frantically. No! You stand up and run back, across the island to your tree, your favorite tree, you'd both watched it grow together. Now the tree was almost 100 years old. You said forever! You remember planting it and the promises you'd made beside it. The house you'd made together stood dark and empty behind the tree. You run down the path you'd made with him and desperately flung the front door open. !!! You were sobbing by this point. Gone! You run from room to room checking, hoping, wishing. !!! You're almost there, the final truth, his floor, the top floor. !!!! It can't be true. You step into his room and are enveloped by a set of familiar arms. Did you miss me?
