The first day of school is always the toughest, people can change in the course of two months. However, things were different for Jason, tougher actually. He had just moved to a new city, which meant a new school, new teachers and especially, new classmates. The whole idea of starting basically his whole life over again was terrifying. He already had bad anxiety and constantly shook. This move had worsened these feelings and saddened him majorly. He lost almost all contact he had with his former friends, completely adding on to "starting his whole life over".
He walked through the front doors, his head bowed, avoiding eye contact with anyone. He stared straight ahead, looking for the Principal's office to get his schedule. After obtaining his schedule, he speed walked all the way to his first class, shaking nervously, hoping his classmates were going to be nice.
When first stepping into room he saw an unruly class, kids jumping around, throwing stuff and yelling.
Isn't this supposed to be a high school? Jason thought to himself as a paper airplane whizzed by his face. Clearly not. He sighed and took a seat in the back by a window, staring out it, not wanting to get caught up in all of the nonsense of the class.
The bell rings and a tall teacher with a dark scraggly beard and glasses. He looks like he belonged to a farm, rather than be a teacher. The man begins to write his name on the board, "Mr. Chase". He proceeds with introducing himself, stating the course they will study, World History, and briefly explaining the curriculum that him and the class will cover.
Seriously, history first? Why can't it be math or english? I guess I can get my classes changed later. Jason thought to himself, not paying attention to Mr. Chase.
The teacher continued to talk, looking at each individual during his speech. He then asked a question that Jason could barely hear. He was too focused on the drumming pattern he had created lightly with his fingers.
"Mr. Burns." could be faintly heard in the teachers deep voice, yet Json still ignored him. He then felt a tap on his shoulder. He looked over and a short little blonde girl was staring at him.
"Nice drumming, but he's calling on you. Just answer James Monroe and pretend like I didn't tell you." She whispered to him with a soft smile. He nods and looks up at the teacher.
"James Monroe?" he speaks, barely audible. Mr. Chase nods, "Good." and goes back to his lesson.
Jason slunk back in his chair, relieved. He looked back over to the girl and whispered.
"Thank you so much."
"No problem." She whispered back with a smile. "I'm Kotah by the way, it's nice to meet you."
"I'm Jason, it's nice to meet you too." He replied with a small smile.
"Heh, Kotah to the rescue again." A voice spoke from behind Kotah.
"Shut up Lottie, I'm just being nice to people. Maybe YOU could do that once for a change." Kotah replied, jokingly.
Jason glanced over in that direction again to see if he could get a better view of the girl. Her hair was long, black, glossy, and filled with green highlights. She wore grey metallic goggles on her head, with dark, smokey makeup accentuating her eyes. Her clothing consisted of a black t-shirt, which was covered in metallic jewelry, black jeans with suspenders and chains, and a pair of black leather wedge boots.
The girl looked over at Jason, which caused him to quickly look back forward, hoping she didn't notice being stared at. Jason looked over at the clock to see how much longer until the next period. Six minutes, thank god.
"Jason." An inaudible voice spoke, which Jason ignored, continuing to watch the clock.
"Jason." The voice spoke again.
"Mr. Burns!" Jason snapped forward, realizing Mr. Chase was calling on him.
"Do you have an answer?" Mr. Chase asked the confused teen.
"Um, no. Sorry." Jason replied.
"Not off to a good start today, are we?"
The bell rang, and Jason was the first out of the room, followed by Kotah. Kotah ran up to Jason hoping to talk to him, as both of their classes were in the same hallway.
Jason stopped short, finding his locker on the way to his second class. Due to the abrupt stop, Kotah crashes into him, dropping all of her books on the ground. He turns to help her, but she already has it all back in her arms.
"Wow! I am so sorry!" Kotah apologizes with a bit of fear in her voice.
"Dude it's alright. It's my fault." Jason tells Kotah, hoping to calm her down.
The two just stare at each other. Kotah begins to attempt a conversation with Jason, to try and break the awkward silence.
"Sooooo, um, what class do you have next?" She mumbles.
Jason pulls out his schedule and reads it.
"Uh, math? With Ms. Winkleberg?" He snickers slightly at the name.
"Dude I heard she's a tough one, watch out. Do you wish for me to walk you to your class orrrrr?" She questions.
"That would be wonderful, but looking at the room number it's just down the hall. Thank you for the offer, though." He smiles gratefully and begins heading for his next class.
"Quick! What lunch do you have?!" Kotah yells.
Aidan pulls out his schedule once more and glances quickly.
"First!" He yells in return.
"Same!" Kotah yells in reply.
Jason, realizing that the bell was about to ring, said goodbye to Kotah and rushed into his class.
