"Fourth?" Jane and I asked in unison.
Eric nodded grimly before speaking. "And they've all been female."
"Well, do you have any suspects?" I questioned as Eric took a seat. He shook his head, before asking Teddy to make a call.
"The only thing that links the murders are that they're all female, they've been killed the same way and that no one realizes they're missing, until it's too late." The sheriff sighed. "Also- "
"Wait...." Jane interrupted, deep in thought. "Why did Frank and Teddy bring the her here? Surely there's a better place to put a body."
"We're trying to minimise panic." Darren intervened. "The less people that see the body before the town knows, the better."
That's when Teddy came back to the conversation. "Bill's on his way." He said as he wiped his forehead. "Should be here soon."
"Well, call him back and tell him to meet us at the station." Eric said as got up and strode over to the body. "Frank, come and help me get the girl in the backseat of my car."
"Her name is Katherine..." Said a fragile voice.
I'd completely forgotten that Shelly was still kneeling on the ground, crying.
That's when she looked up and met my eyes.
"Her name is Katherine and she ran the boutique down on King Street."
Then Shelly got up and turned her gaze to the sheriff.
"She was a good person and she deserves better than the backseat of your patrol car!" She spat, before turning on her heel and retreating to the kitchen.
"Shelly...." Darren mumbled as he followed her, leaving Jane and I, with Frank, Teddy and Eric.
Then a thought travelled into my mind.
This was a dead body, right? So, why wasn't there any blood?
As I watched Frank pick up Katherine and sling her over his shoulder, I noticed that there was no pool of blood. Nothing on her clothes, either.
"Shouldn't she be bleeding?" I questioned as Teddy and Frank walked out of the diner. The sheriff was the one who answered me.
"I was trying to tell you earlier, but someone interrupted." He said as he scowled at Jane, who shrugged.
"So...why isn't she bleeding?" I asked inpatiently.
"Because." Eric drawled. "Like all the other bodies, Katherine has had all the blood drained from her."
My eyes widened in shock. All of her blood was gone? Who the hell would do something like that?
"And why would the killer need to drain the victim's blood?"
"You tell me." Eric responded as he headed towards the door that led out of the diner.
"Are you seriously gonna leave?" Jane asked quizzically. "I, for one, still have a lot of questions."
"Which will be answered." Eric stated as he turned around.
"And when will that be?" Said Jane, with all seriousness.
He replied lightly, and I didn't expect what he was about to say.
"Well, you're both coming with us, aren't you?"
