When they were three, they shared juice boxes. At five, they planted a willow tree, Seven they walked into school hand in hand. When they were thirteen, he fell in love but didn't say a word. At sixteen, his heart grew fonder for a girl that stayed clueless threw unnoticed tears. And at eighteen, he had had enough, he grabbed up his college fund and stayed for hours for a girl that never came. He checked his phone to find a text. His stomach dropped and he runs to the willow tree, his heart ripping from his chest at the sight of his best friend lying on the ground. He falls to the floor and covers her face with his tears. As tears fall he whispers in her ear "If only, I had noticed your pain. If only, I hadn't been so blind. If only, I had looked past your fading smile. If only, if only, I had told you ... I loved you. Our last breaths could have been together, watching our grandchildren play in the gentle breeze of the spring and we could have faded together, underneath the willow tree. He kisses her cold forehead and stands up, tears still falling and drops the ring box deep into the roots of the willow tree. With a last tear, he leaves, swearing to never love again.
