Janez opened his eyes. He almost fell asleep lying under one of the trees by the lake on the school ground, a book and some notes resting in his lap, when a loud, somewhat obnoxious laugh shook him fully awake.
He looked up, and noticed his Gryffindor brother, Marko, who was poking the giant squid together with some other Gryffindors. He was tempted to join them, but since they were in rival houses, he felt uninvited.
Alfred loudly and hysterically laughed when a tentacle showed out from the water and almost touched him. He was a year under Marko and two under Janez.
Jovana, a first year Gryffindor who was sticking with the group because of a (perhaps too noticeable) crush on Alfred, squealed from excitement.
Janez sadly looked away. It felt really tempting to join them.
"You're better off with us," unmistakable English accent came from behind him.
The older student walked up to him so silently and unnoticeably that he gave the younger boy a jump-scare. It was his virtue - even more so than Malfoy's.
"But he's my brother," he answered Arthur, "Don't you have any?"
The one year older student snorted. "Yes, three. But I don't watch them from the side like that. It's creepy."
"You're not helping," Janez accused the older student, "I just wish to spend some time with my brother but it's like he forgot I'm also part of the family."
Arthur snorted and walked away.
Now, before we introduce the necessary love interest, let's take a look at Janez and the state of his mind at the moment. He's an educated young man from an upper class (i.e. rich) family, he's melancholic and split between reality (being that he and his brother are in rival houses, making them unable to hang out as family) and ideal (him and his brother being able to hang out without being judged by society), which puts him in conflict with the world. This resulted in him feeling world-weariness and in resorting to the nature and writing poems. Our sad piece of sadness is a real romantic hero, the only reason for that probably being that he declined a cup of coffee from his mother once.
It'd be really stupid if Janez killed himself at the beginning of the story though, so let's give him a(n unattainable) love interest in a shape of tall, fair-haired person from the highest year - two years older than him.
The two wouldn't even say one word to each other, if the older didn't accidentally trip over the younger one.
What a coincidence.
My bad.
"I'm so sorry!" the older boy exclaimed.
"No, no! I'm so sorry!" Janez stood up and held out his hand to the Hufflepuff student. The notes and the book falling from his lap.
Older in the pair looked into his eyes with such confusion one doesn't see in a person unless one sees a person reading Shakespeare's comedy expecting it to be an actually funny piece of dramatic literature, but what the said person gets is instead some forced laughs and a mostly happy ending.
If the characters in this story had ability to break fourth walls, I'd get murdered by Arthur at the moment, so we're not doing that.
Anyway, moving on. The fair-haired boy hesitantly took Janez's hand and muttered a thank you when he stood up. They didn't speak much beforehand (no pun was intended, but here it is), even if they did meet before.
He was for about a head taller, his hair was basically white, that's how light coloured it was, his eyes in colour of forget-me-nots, in other words blue that was already giving a sense of purple, a somewhat unsettling, but yet kind smile, the nose was a little too big for the Hufflepuff's face in Janez's opinion and his features were a little rounded.
