Sad by Kodie Shane blast throughout my bedroom Interrupting my slumber. Hanging my feet over the edge of my bed, I ponder about how my life has turned about. Blaming myself for everything that had taken place from last year. Cursing myself and wishing that my life had been taken along with my parents. No longer wanting to be on this cold bitter earth all alone. I ponder for about a few more minutes before swinging my feet off the edge of the bed and standing up. Grabbing my towel entering my sorry excuse for a bathroom.
Turning on the water hoping and praying that the hot water isn't off. I slowly undress myself and step into the shower letting the steaming hot water penetrate my skin. I lather my body with soap and hum welcome back by mase. A song my mother always used to play when my father came back from the army. The song would blast through the house while I helped my mom tidy up the place and prepare poppas favorite meal. This was a ritual that we always did until it was the last time my poppa returned home.
"Mom when's poppa coming home" I asked my mom
"His coming anytime now, just-" she was interrupted by knocking on the door
My mom slowly walked to the door confused why the mysterious person didn't just ring the door bell, like an average person. Opening the door was an army sergeant wore a sincere look on his face. Once he opened his mouth I zoned out. All I could hear was my mother crying her eyes out and screaming "God, help me!"
That was the last day I recalled having a mother and the last day we ever played welcome back. After that everything went downhill from that. My mother got hooked up on drugs and alcohol and barely stayed home. Leaving me to fend for myself at the young age of 14. I realized how harsh and cruel the world is. My mother blamed me for the death of my father. Harshly saying that if I wasn't born then he would have never joined the army.
The sorry excuse of a mother a have hasn't been home for about 2 months. I stopped worrying about her when she didn't return for a whole week. But I barely have any money to take care of the bills. There was a knock on the door, which was strange because no one everyone visits. I open the door to see a box with my name on it with I note attached.
Odai,
Here's a little gift for you, your mother owed me a lot of money from the product I was providing for her. She couldn't own up to it so I had to teach her a lesson.
Sincerely, Blade
I opened the box and almost fainted when I saw my mom's head. Her eyes rolled to the back of her head and her once almond skinned paled. I dropped the box and ran to my room. Packing as much a can carry and took off to my grandmother's house.
Banging on my grandma's door hoping she was home. Her door swung open and she looked at me like I had 5 heads.
"What the hell is wrong with you child its 5 in the morning" she said
"They killed her." I cried out
"They killed who" She asked
"My momma" I said
"Not my baby, No!!!" She screamed out
We cried together on her front porch and from that day on I realized how cruel the world is.
