JACKSON POV

Everything was set up and ready to go. My stomach was all over the place, hoping this would all go as planned. I feel my phone vibrate.

*y/n*: I'm on my way.

I smile and give a short reply before telling everyone gathered that she would be arriving soon.

I've been planning to do something special for her birthday. I invited her over, telling her it would just be us casually hanging out, but in reality I've been planning a little surprise party.

Tons of our friends helped out, decorating my small apartment with hundreds of balloons and streamers.
I just hope she likes it.

I had to convince her friend *y/f/n* to keep her occupied for the day while I worked on the party, which wasn't much of a challenge considering they would have hung out anyway.

I hear a knock at the door and everyone gathers around. As the door opens, shouts of "surprise," and "happy birthday," can be heard from all the people there.

I watch as *y/n* smiles with that beautiful bright smile of hers and she covers her face with her hands in shock. She's absolutely stunning, as usual. But we've been friends for so long I'm sure she doesn't feel the same way.

Yes, we'd occasionally hold hands or maybe hover a little too close to each other, but that's just the kind of relationship we had I suppose.

"Jackson!" She exclaims as she pushes through people to get to me. Her arms drape around my neck as she pulls me in for a hug, the smell of her perfume lingering. I place my arms around her waist in response.

"This is amazing, thank you so much!"
"Oh it's nothing really," I say with a smile. I loved seeing her so happy.

The party was now in full swing, complete with music blaring (which I'm sure I'll get a noise complaint about). Despite my fairly small apartment, we managed to pack loads of people in the space, some of which I'm not sure were even invited. I sit on the couch alone, just admiring the atmosphere.

'Come on Eileen' can be heard playing, a song I know *y/n* loves to death. I watch her a few feet away, her face lights up and she's dancing so carefree. She begins to walk over to me as the song continues playing.

She grabs my hand in attempt for me to get up and dance, but I refuse. Instead I sit there, holding her hand as she sings her cares away. It's a beautiful sight to behold.

As the song ends she occupies the spot on the couch next to me and leans over to my ear.

"Thank you Jackson, for all of this. Really, it means a lot," she says and lightly kisses my cheek. It wasn't the first time she's done this, yet it still makes my heart feel light.

"Anything for the birthday girl," I reply, still holding her hand.

The night carries on, some people leave, some people arrive, and I realize I haven't seen *y/n* in some time. That is until I feel her latch her arms around my waist. I look down at her expressive eyes, confused by her actions.

"Jackson you know I love you right?" She says.

"Of course." I say, almost as a question. Despite us being 'just friends' we were quite comfortable with terms of endearment, so this isn't that out of the ordinary.

"No like I really do, I love you," she repeats. She slurs her words and her actions become sloppier. I can tell she's been drinking.

"*y/n*, you don't drink, what's the matter?" I say to her. *y/n* was definitely not the drinking type, and on the rare occasions she did drink, it was never to the point of excess. I could tell something was wrong.

She doesn't reply for a minute or so, and remains latched to my side. I prop my arm around her to keep her from stumbling.

"I just had water.. from him over there," she explains. I look over to where she's pointing to see exactly the person I didn't want to see, her ex boyfriend, Jin.

I steady *y/n* and tell her I'll be right back before walking over to Jin. I lean over to his ear to talk over the loud music.

"I don't know what your problem is, but you are not welcome here and you better get out of here before I make you," I almost whisper.

He simply puts his hands up and backs away, signaling his defeat. It takes everything in me not to attack him right on the spot. But luckily I avoid confrontation and he walks out.

I start telling friends that the night should probably come to an end, and slowly but surely the crowd of people start to clear out.

After saying goodbye to the last guests I walk over to *y/n*, who has taken it upon herself to fall asleep on my couch.

She looked so innocent. I couldn't believe an asshole like Jin would just take advantage of her, on her birthday of all days.

Trying not to disturb her sleep, I pick *y/n* up and take her to my bedroom where I place her in my bed and pull the covers onto her. I start to walk out the door when I hear her say something.

"Jackson?"
I peak my head back through the door and see her sitting up in my bed, though she looks exhausted.

"I know I'm completely fucked up right now, but I meant what I said earlier," she said slowly.

"I know," I begin, "I love you too."

She smiles big, then closes her eyes and drifts into sleep.

As I lay on my couch and start to doze off, I know that she'll never remember what I said in the morning.
