July 7, 2008

It was a hot summer day and everything was perfect. Well, that's what I thought it was. Turns out, that day was not close to perfect at all.

Jace Roberts, my childhood best friend, and I were outside their mansion sitting by their pool while playing the songs from our favorite playlist. When the song Iris by Goo Goo Dolls came on, Jace stood up and took my hand. I was about to ask him where he was taking me when he put his left hand on my waist.

"And I don't want the world to see me, 'cause I don't think that they'd understand." He started singing and I giggled. Of course, this was 'our song.'

"When everything's made to be broken, I just want you to know who I am," I started singing along with him.

Throughout the whole song, the only thing that we did was stare into each other's eyes and in that moment, it felt like time stood still for us. But as soon as the song ended, his eyes were filled with guilt and sadness.

"What's wrong, Jay?" I asked him. He stepped back and went back to his chair and so, I followed him.

"I'm leaving, Lex," he said in a voice I could barely hear.

"Wh-what? Wh-where?" I tried my best not to cry, but it's too late. The tears were streaming down my face endlessly. "Why all of a sudden, Jay?!"

"What? I'm leaving. Where? To Miami. Why all of a sudden?" He took a deep breath and looked at me before continuing, "That, I can't answer for now."

We were still at the age of 12 that time, so of course, he wouldn't know the answers yet.

"But, Lex, I promise you, I will never ever EVER forget about you." I gave him a sad smile.

The first three weeks after he moved to Miami, we kept in touch. We would call each other thrice a week and would send emails to each other every night despite the time differences we have. But as time passed by, he eventually forgot me and his promise.

Five years later, when I went on Facebook, I tried searching for him on the website. There were a lot of Jace Roberts listed, but there was one profile that stood up, that displayed a picture of a guy who had the same face as my best friend back then.

I clicked the profile and my face went pale. There were recent pictures of him and another girl.

Maybe he got a girlfriend.. or a new best friend.

All the thoughts about him having a new set of friends or a girlfriend were killing me, literally. I noticed how his looks changed. He doesn't have his baby face anymore. In some pictures, his curly and shaggy hair was straightened and he wore a beanie. In short terms, he became more good- looking, handsome, hot, etc.

I went through his recent posts and saw that he posted a status a few minutes ago.

'Thanks for the red velvet cupcakes, Gigi! <3' said the status update with an attached picture of him and a blonde, which I'm guessing her name is Gigi, her new best friend. I still remembered the time when I made him red velvet cupcake since he was sick and he loved those cupcakes.

I went through more posts and finally turned off ny laptop and cried myself to sleep.

I guess I just have to forget abput you the same way you forgot about me, Jace Roberts.

So this is just a preview, and I might be posting the first chapter tomorrow. And I'll be doing some proofreading as soon as I posted the first chapter, so excuse some typographical errors. Hope you guys like it. :)
