mornings are the worst. i never liked them much because i was always reminded of the flashing lights against the snow.

i never liked snow either, nor did i like light.

nor did i like mornings.

"oya, diem, are you awake yet?" it was the boy from next door, kyosuke karasuma. technically next room. we were roommates and we'd known each other since middle school. we went to different high schools now, though. "geez, you were never a morning person, huh?"

i groaned again, muttering curses at him. i would have been able to catch another three hours of sleep if he hadn't interrupted with a cup of tea in his hand, steaming hot.

damn it he knows me too well, i muttered to myself as i got up from bed slowly, my tank top falling off my shoulders, my pale gray hair a mess. i didn't bother moving since kyosuke dug through my dresser, tossing me a new shirt, my skirt and my deodorant.

i sluggishly applied my deodorant before pulling on my shirt and skirt, kyousuke looking away as i did so before i groaned, making a grabbing motion for him to hand me the tea. he chuckled lightly before complying.

"you have school today hurry up," he rolled his eyes.

"and you don't?" i grumbled back.

"nope."

"lucky bastard." he just snickered at me. i got out of bed slowly, before slinging on my backpack and going to the door. "you clean up since you have so much free time."

i heard a faint sigh and a reluctant agreement before I left the house, headed to school.

i had my short hair to thank for not needing to get ready.

"why am i here again?" i asked aloud. "this is boring."

today was supposed to be the day BORDER trainees met up to talk about their selected positions. gunner, attacker...were there any others? i couldn't really remember off the top of my head and spent the next maybe ten minutes trying to figure it out rather than listening to some senior agents on the stage of the main room.

i didn't really care, to be honest. it was probably more of a fancy speech to promote ideals and goals for and of BORDER agents.

it was only when people started moving again that i was snapped from my thoughts (only to present myself with another question).

"uh...attacker, gunner or sniper...?"
