The Woods

His gloved hands wrapped around the mug, listening to the wood-fire crackle inches away inside the ample fireplace, warming the middle-aged man as he sat on an old recliner with a blanket over him. He glanced at the windowーnevermind, everything had frozen over, it was impossible to see anything when there was so much ice over his view. A sigh escaped his mouth, resulting in steam that collided with the cold weather. What was with the sudden cold weatherーit was usually never like this, especially in the middle of July! A knock on the door sounded, echoing throughout the empty house of his, who in their right mind would go out in this harsh climate? He shook his head, and stared at the rickety door, "Who's there," he asked, a hint of annoyance in his question. The man waited a couple of seconds for a reply, but nothing of the sort was heard. He grumbled, putting down his mug, the sound of ceramic on wood resonating throughout the room. After softly brushing his brown, and messy, hair back to his ears, the man stood up, placing his hands on his knees for support.

A yelp was heard from outsideー"Huge delivery!" Someone yelled. The man reached for the doorknob, letting his blanket crawl off and land on the floor. He turned the handle, half-expecting a gun to be pointed straight at him right after he opened the doorー and hey, look what just happened to show up. No, not a regular pistol, but rather a shotgun (AGM Model 003 Long to be specific), its barrel was pointed right to his head.

"D-damn, boy, you trying to kill me?" What he got back was only a scoff from the young boy in front of him, a few inches shorter than the man. In the young boy's hands, the gun rattledー the boy didn't want to kill the man, and was definitely afraid of doing so. The man held up his hands, then looked at the weapon, he noticed how nervous the boy was, and this resulted in a half smirk slowly forming upon his face.

The boy quickly took notice of the change in the behavior of the older male, and pissed, he pulled the trigger, immediately regretting it. The bullet went straight through the target's head, but no blood, nothing gory was seen, it was as if the young boy shot through wax. But how was that possibleーthe bullet was just lodged in this guy's head! The man closed his eyes, as if disappointed, letting out a deep sigh that quickly crystallized into small pieces of ice.

"W-What the hell?!" The boy took a step back, his foot sinking into the snow. Through the boy's light shoes, moisture went straight to his feet, drenching his socks and shoes. Eyes now open, the man raised his eyebrow, "Shouldn't try to shoot someone that you simply can't kill." And exactly what the man was; a monster you simply can't killーan unfortunate death the young boy would have to face against the man. The man patted the boy's head, playing with the teen's rough black hair for a bit before saying something new, "I won't kill you if you run away and tell no one." With that, the boy nodded rapidly, scrambling to his feet and dashing away, tripping in the snow and dropping his gun.

The adolescent heard small waves of laughter of the man behind him, but he just quickly grabbed the shotgun with both his hands, using it to help himself up. Snow once again began to fall, falling onto the man's head, freezing over, then breaking off again. The man stepped back into the warm, cozy house, closing the door and accidentally stepping upon his beloved blanketーit was time to wait for more victims to visit the wood cabin of his in the eerie forest.
