Erin's face hurt. Never had she ever smiled so much in one day. She looked up at Jay, who was just staring into her eyes. She had her arms wrapped around his neck and he was gently holding her waist. They were slowly spinning, Erin's long, silky white dress wrapping around Jay's feet. Her hair was in a bun with strands falling wavily down the sides of her face. She hadn't worn much makeup, as she usually didn't. The music played quietly and it almost bothered Erin that everyone was watching them. Almost. She closed her eyes, the feeling of Jay's hands holding her, the calm sound of music playing casually in the background, blending in with the whole scene.
As she had her arms around Jay's neck she felt the beautiful multi-diamond silver ring that she had received only hours before. She felt like the day had flown by, but at the same time lasted her whole life. The sky was dark but multiple camping lanterns were spread out across the yard of their new house. There were beautiful white decorations and candles everywhere, but it was hard for Erin to pay much attention to them. The only thing in the moment she was aware of was Jay. The platform they slowly danced on was smooth and the vague sound of crickets made the scenery all the better. Jay stepped closer as they both slowly took a step sideways and kissed her again. She didn't forget everyone was there, but she still didn't mind. Nothing would demote the best day of her life.
After almost a year of officially coming together, Jay asked Erin to marry him. She knew she loved him, but she never saw herself completely coming out of her bruised and broken shell that she was left in at the age of sixteen. She thought she always had to be strong. But Jay showed her that day that she could lean on him and he would always be there. She would never change who she was, because she'd been that girl for too long. But Jay had changed her in a way that was unexplainable; partially because she didn't understand it herself. Her eyes were still closed as she parted her lips from Jay's, and repeated what she had said multiple times in the past seven hours. "I love you."
...
Erin had her hand on Jay's warm neck. She had one leg tangled with his and he was kissing her. Her heart was melted by that point, happiness still blinding her. Their new house was dark and cool, the furnace cheap and mostly useless in the march weather.
Jay shifted his hand to her hip but continued to kiss her calmly.
After a while Erin green tired and Jay pulled away.
He stroked her hair admiringly and glanced at her, his emerald eyes sparkling in then dull lamplight. "Its almost three. We should get some sleep."
Erin nodded before kissing him again and falling asleep against his chest.
