A wolf emerged from near tent flaps. "So how did the story telling go with the pups?" Asked a black wolf with orange running down the right side of her cheek all the way down to her chest.
"Alright," Anela lied.
"Is that sarcasm I sense?" Replied the she wolf. She shook her mane like neck fur. Raven feathers danced along with the shaking along the back of her neck.
"Sure. How did yours go?"
"Fine," She sighed. "They wouldn't shut it. I was about to shut it for them."
"That doesn't sound fine."
"They finally did, but the two in the far back were just jib-jabbing. Constantly, to the point the other pups were about to drag them out of the tent!" She said with a chuckle. Anela opened her mouth to speak, but was interrupted when the wolf's attention snapped towards the flaps opening to another tent. A another black wolf emerged. His eyes were a bright stunning green. He turned his attention towards the two female wolves. "Kanoa!" The she wolf screamed. Anela put her ears back in embarrassment.
"Kalua!" He screamed back. Kalua ran towards him happily. Kanoa did the same as the flaps of the tent slid of his back the back half of his white body appeared. The two ran at each other as if they hadn't seen each other in a million years. Kalua jumped as him as if she were going to give him a tackle hug. Kanoa jumped as well, but as he flew through the air he turned his pelt running along side of Kalua's. Once his front feet hit the ground he swung out one of his back feet. Kalua went tumbling through the air faceplanting into the dusty ground. Kanoa's back feet landed graceful on the ground.
Kalua was still sliding as Kanoa shot Anela a smile as he let a shushing sound part his lips. Anela nodded her cheeks flaring. She hopped Kalua hadn't seen it. He was turned away from her now holding back the laughter as he watched his dust-faced sister stomp up towards him. She was far from happy.
"Why did you do that?" She asked growling
"It must have been the wind or the way you pushed off the ground," He responded.
"Lair!"
"I am not a liar. I didn't do anything. Right Anela?" He turned towards her.
Anela was aroused from her day dream as the two slender unblinking faces stared towards her.
"Ummm....What?"
"Was it the wind that pushed me?" Kalua said questionly.
Anela was completely confused by the babbling of the siblings. "No?"
"So, it was you!" Kalua shouted.
Konoa shot Anela a dirty look. From that moment on Anela knew she said something wrong. "Or it could of been the way you jumped?"
"That's what I told you to say!" Konoa shouted towards Anela. "Can you just follow a simple order? We're going to be traveling up the mountains here in a few days! Do you think you are going to get far not being able to follow simple instructions!"
Anela's eyes felt blurry as she turned her head away. A tear began finding its way down her cheek, she sniffed trying to make it somehow find its way back in. She turned and ran.
"Why did you do that? You know how Anela doesn't want to leave, and you know that! You idiot!" Kalua screamed. "Why do you always do this to her?"
"I didn't mean too," Konoa growled in his defense. "Could you think of yourself for once, and not the problems of others?" His voice was beginning to slowly raise. "No wonder you can't keep any friends! They fear for your flipping sanity!"
"I do have friends! I have Anela, and yet you managed to run her off! So, don't blame me for not having any friends it's all your fault!"
Konoa straightened out his stance lowering his head. His white neck feathers were soon on end. "This is all your fault and you know it!" He snapped.
ΩΩΩ
Anela laid in her tent alone. Tears streaming down her face. She couldn't quite figure out why she was crying. It wasn't the words that hurt she finally figured. It was the expression that they had given her. She like Kalua she was usually a positive person, and she really liked Konoa in his smile, minus his mean pranks and hot tempered. Even with those tempers they always seemed to run past her. He was a good man and she knew it.
She rolled over onto her back resting the tips of paws against her stomach. Anela sighed staring up at the ceiling.
The way the leather came to a point where the branches meet had always sent a calming sensation throughout her body. The tears soon dried, and she continued to stare at the ceiling for hours it seemed. Her eyes soon got heavy.
Anela was awoken by a warm breath that warmed her face. She opened her eyes to see the green and black face of Konoa. Anela was startled she quickly raised her head trying to get into a sitting position. Instead her lips bumped the end of Konoa's snout. His eyebrows came to a confused and curious look. Anela awkwardly chuckled sliding backwards a few inches so she could achieve the sitting position. A uncomfortable moment of silence passed between the two.
"You may wonder why I'm here," Konoa said.
"Yes."
"Well, I've come to apologize," He replied shrugging.
"About what?"
"Now you're playing stupid. You know why."
"No, I really do not know why."
"I'm sorry for treating you like trash a few tracks ago," He sighed. "It wasn't right of me. I hope you understand."
"I do, Konoa," Anela said loving the sound of his name rolling off her tongue.
"Oh, ok thanks, Anela." He began to leave then turned back to face Anela.
"What's that matter now?" Anela asked cocking her head.
"I haven't said this to anyone yet. I'm just too embarrassed," he looked at the ground his ears falling back. "I thought it might be time to confess."
Was he feeling the same thing she was right now? This thought ran through Anela's head multiple times. "W-What?" She asked.
"I'm scared too. You know traveling up to the mountains. I don't know the environment like I do too. You may be scared Anela, but I want you to know your not alone. You were never alone"
"Oh, ok." Anela said lowering her head.
"You sound disappointed?"
"N-no I'm not."
"You sure?"
"Yes. You have better things to be doing right now. You can leave me. Alone."
"Thanks Anela! I feel much better, now."
Once, Konoa had left and she was sure he wasn't in earshot she fell to her right side hitting the cold ground like a rock. She sighed she thought. Why must this be so hard.....?
She rolled over and stared at the ceiling. In a day this tent would be empty. She would be up in the mountains. No more Anela.
