Strangers.

Funny how something so small made us best friends.

11 years old.
We said, "best friends forever." As we pinky swore in your front lawn.
Sweat dripping down our faces, laughing in the summer breeze.
It was you and I together against the world.
Nothing was stopping us.
Not yet.
We were 2 friends, oblivious to what the future would hold.

12 years old.
Boys came into the picture.
I had the celebrity crush where as you had the first kiss.
Tennis balls and windows.
Rain and soccer.
The possibilities were endless, the reactions were priceless.
But it was still you and I together against the world.
Nothing changed.
Not yet.
We were 2 friends, oblivious to what the future would hold.

13 years old.
7th grade was over and 8th began.
People came into your life and I started to run.
You struggled, I moved on.
Problems arose and I was done.
I wanted to help, I truly did, but him and them were more important then your best friend.
You fell into the shadows deeper then before.
I quickly reached out trying to pull you away, but his words and their games caused you to stay.
You fell. I walked away.

Once best friends, now strangers who hardly say "hey."

Funny how something so small made us best friends,
funny how something so small made us forget,
funny how once best friends are nothing but strangers again.
