Frank swam peacefully in the waves of the ocean that he had pretty much claimed for himself. After all, that's all that he could do. He had no technology, no friends, and, more importantly, no legs.

Frank let his mind wander, thinking about how he was lonely and just wished that he had a friend; someone to talk to.

It had been so long since Frank had had a friend.

Suddenly, a sharp pain took over Frank's tail.

Yeah, tail.

Frank considered himself kind of like some mermaid-type creature; he just hated being called that.

But that didn't matter. What mattered is that Frank was hurt; badly.

Frank cried out in pain, but, of course, nobody could hear him. It was nearly four in the morning. Nobody was on the beach, and nobody was on boats. Plus, Frank was in the middle of the ocean, where barely anyone dared to wander.

Frank tried to continue swimming; maybe he could find help. But he kept getting slower, and slower, and his vision became black at the edges.

Frank stuck his head out of the water and cried for help one last time, but to no avail.

Suddenly, everything went black, and Frank ceased to swim.
