Author's note: hi there. Before you start reading I advice you to play the song A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. You know, to enhance the feels. Its your option though. If you want. Thanks. Hope you enjoy.
*************
The wind is cold, the grass is in between his toes and he got a handfull of flowers. Every step he takes on the green pasture reminds him his colourfull past with her. The way he runs around the field bare footed with her.
Caster cant explain the way he feels in the moment. There's an aching sensation but at the same time its not grief. Not the way it felt two years ago. This time, it feels better, so much better.
The small pebles may sore his feet but he doesnt care. 'Cause somehow, he knows what hurts the most already. After a brief moment of walking, he reached his destination alast. He let out a smile like how he smiled at her. Carefully sitting down on the grass, he placed the flowers on her tombstone. Stroking his finger on the marble tablet reminds him of the way he stroked her cheek before.
Everything around him reminds him of her. The wind, how it blows her hair and makes it beautifully messy before. The grass, what she always loved to step on without shoes. A mango tree, which is right above her grave, her favourite fruit. The scenario just reminds him so much of his beloved.
This time was really different. No hurting, no grief, no tears. Just a smile and silence. But the silence breaks when he speaks out words.
"Happy Valentines day Macy. These are for you. "
It not only the flowers that he ment. Everything in the moment was for her. Walking bare footed on the grass, wearing a maroon coloured sweat shirt which is what he wore on their first date. And everything else.
He just loves Macy so much. He learned to let go. He learned to accept the fact that there would be no future together, but at least, they had a past together.
"It came true Macy. The things you said before you passed. You said it would hurt a lot but one day I'll wake up and it wouldnt hurt as much as it did."
And so, he got nostalgic. He sees her two years ago on the hospital bed. Hair all gone 'cause of the chemo. Lips are chapped and faded. Body weak and fragile as if a single touch would break her in pieces. Like how it broke Caster's heart when she closed her eyes and stopped breathing.
A million gun shots attacked his chest and he felt like he was killed. But now......his breathing was eased and calm. He knows somewhere up there, she's happy. Happier than she was when she was alive."Macy. You told me to start something new when you end. You told me you would be happy for me. And here it is. I came to tell you Im engaged."
His smile was a huge grin already. He knew up in heaven, Macy is fan girling like the way she did before.
"I want you to know I love you so much Macy. I love the woman who I will marry but not as the way I loved you. It should be you who Im marrying. You changed my life in so many ways you know? I thank God for you."
His words reached up heaven and a smile flashed in Macy's face. Those words never failed to make her smile, eversince she was alive. And now, she's in peace. She must be smiling all the time.
Caster got his guitar case and started to play a song. A song that was very much memorable to him. Two years ago, when his beloved was running out of time. Her breathing hurts everytime she takes in. The heart monitor's beeps turns into a straight line. They manage to block the sound and just sing this song. Macy's favourite song. And when they finished singing, she closed her eyes and never said another word.
His fingers swifting along the neck of the guitar positioning them into chords, he started playing. The beautiful song 'A thousand years'.
"Heart beats fast
Colours and promises
I will be brave
I will not let anything take
This away........I have died everyday waiting for you. Darling dont be afriad I have loved you for a thousand years. I loved you for a thousand more."
He stopped playing and let out a long sigh. He knew his meet up with his beloved is already over. He stood up from the grass and packed his guitar.
"I have to go darling. I love you so much. I love you for a thousand years. Even a thousand more."
Those were his last words. The moment he turned around, he saw the wide space. Air swifting through every part. There may be gaps in his heart and life without her, but instead, he fills it with laughter. Remembering his promise to his love to keep smiling and indulge in the thrill of life. He knew at some point, she's the air wrapping around him everytime. The oxygen going inside him everytime he breaths. She's not really gone. She's everywhere in his world.
Remaining there in his life and heart for a thousand years.
