I had gotten out for summer vacations early this year so Adam,my boyfriend, and I had planned a to visit my parents for 2 weeks. They met us at the airport and we had lunch and then went back to their house to get settled in. I had forgotten how comfortable their house was. It brought back a sense of safety and tranquility. I felt so happy to see them and introduce them to one of the people I'd been closest to for the past few years. We also had a huge surprise for my parents- We were engaged! We didn't tell them right away because we knew they'd be so delighted and would want to celebrate, so we decided we'd tell them in the morning once we're all rested up. After dinner and some family time it was around 10 a.m. so we all went and got ready for bed.

Adam and I slept upstairs in my sister's old bedroom, and my parents were downstairs right underneath our room. Adam was sound asleep before 11:00 and I lay awake too excited about the announcement in the morning to sleep. At around midnight or so I decided to get a midnight snack, thinking that it might get me to feel filled up and get sleepy. After finishing my snack in the kitchen, I crept up back to the bedroom and got back in the warm bed. I noticed Adam wasn't snoring like he usually did, so I leaned in closer and put my arm around his body. It took me a while but then i felt something wet. I felt around the bed and the sheets were all soggy. "Adam did you wet the bed?", I asked. No reply. He was crashed out. I decided i'd put a towel around the area and deal with it in the morning. I left the light off so it wouldn't wake him up and I went to the closet, on my walk back to the room I felt a sudden gush of cold air coming from the bedroom. I ignored it, I just wanted to get back to trying to sleep. I turned on the dim lamp of my bedside table to check where the area was wet. When I lifted up the bed sheets, I cringed in horror and shock at what I saw. Adam lay there in a pool of blood stabbed in the stomach, slit throat, and open-mouthed. I was terrified and I stayed in a state of shock for a few minutes. I was paralyzed with fear and sadness.

I could feel my body getting weak and my brain growing heavy. I was lost in my horror that I wasn't aware of what was going on downstairs. I was afraid to be alone in that pitch black room with only a dim lamp. My first instinct was to hide, but I quickly realized it was too late. I had to find a weapon, I needed protection before I could even try to go downstairs. I got out of bed and thought about where I could get one of my dad's guns. I was on my way to the closet, when I heard footsteps coming up the stairs. I hauled back to the bedroom and I claimed sanctuary in the bathroom. I was good for a while, until I started hearing some growling coming from the bedroom. That's when I realized that this wasn't a human killer, it was a demonic beast. I listened carefully for any significant noises. Dead silence. Shortly, I heard some quiet footsteps, like a child trying not to wake his parents in the middle of the night. Then a thud on the floor. More silence, then more sly footsteps and another thud. I had no idea what was going on behind the bathroom door. The beast was making some weird growls and snarls.

It was angry. It wasn't going to stop until it was finished with everyone in that house. My only option now was to wait until it left and I could make a quick escape out a window in the bedroom. I was capable of jumping off the balcony onto a tree, i'd do anything to get out of there. The growling slowly started fading into some faint heavy breathing, then there was silence. I heard footsteps again, this time going downstairs. This was my chance, I can't mess this up. I was quietly making my way towards the window, dodging any obstacles I might run into in the dark room. Then, the last thing I needed, my cell phone rang. I have never heard a ringtone louder than this at the perfectly

inconvenient timing. I was going to run back to the bathroom, but it was too far, he would catch me in the act. I quickly got under the sheets. Moments later, the beast came up and I thought for sure i'd be dead in a matter of seconds. I heard a sliding sound like pulling a rug out from under a table. Then a slight bounce on the bedside. I heard silence and took a quick peek. I had a mini heart attack when in the darkness of the room I could see the beast had plopped my father's lifeless, pale body on the bedside, facing me, mouth opened and eyes plunged out. I slowly peeked again and saw my mother's stiff body placed upright on a rocking chair, received the same treatment as my father's. I also noticed something splattered on the wall, I thought it was just random streaks of blood. I kept thinking of a way I could get out of this bedroom and get help. It sounds stupid to think about it, but I would rather he had killed me quickly than to keep me in terror and sadness. Lying here helpless, the smell of death filling up the house, I once felt so much comfort in. After a while I realized what I was staring at for so long. My eyes had adjusted to the darkness and I could plainly read what the beast would call his masterpiece: ''I SEE YOU"..

I've been lying here for hours now resisting the urge to scream. Staring at those words. Realizing this was actually happening. Remembering all the events that happened in what seemed like a flash but now felt like an eternity. I kept trying to think of how I could escape. Lost in my thoughts I failed to notice that the beast had exited the room long ago. This is a good thing, I thought. I can make my quick escape through the window. I kept thinking this was a good thing, but i knew in my heart it wasn't. I knew he wasn't going to leave me alone with any route of escape. He was resting downstairs. I could feel his unspoken presence. I looked over the bodies, to the window. Of course he would remove the lock on the doors. I'd have to break the doors down. But with what? I wasn't heavy enough to break it down with one blow and i'd have to be fast or he'd come up and slash me before i could even turn around. I needed the door lock it comes with but now he broke it off, so i'm trapped up here. How did he know? Had he been watching me since then? Waiting for me to return? I had completely forgotten that the windows behind the blind doors led to the balcony which would lead to my death if I tried to jump. I'd need time to look for a tree or a checkpoint to land when I jump. If I went for it, I wouldn't make the jump, I'd die either way. I've always been afraid of death but tonight is the night i'd inevitably face it. No, I wasn't afraid of death itself, I was afraid of the pain. It would bring me pain and bring pain to those who would miss me. But there was no one left to miss me. I was alone. As my thoughts got darker, my time got shorter. Rain or shine, this thing wouldn't leave.

Then I remembered, my cell phone! I could try to move quietly across the springy bed and get my phone. Hopefully it wouldn't ring and race me to my death. I pulled down the bed sheets and started to slide towards the bedside table towards Adam and away from my father. I tried not to touch the body as I reached over it to feel around the table for my phone. I finally felt the small diamond accessory I had on the top and grabbed it. I pulled it close to my face so the light wouldn't be so bright in the darkness. I pulled the covers over me. I was so relieved. I was finally going to get help, hopefully I could wait it out until the police got here. My phone had turned off probably because it ran out of battery but that was a minor problem, it didn't take long to turn on or make any sounds when I put it to charge. After a few seconds It still wouldn't turn on. I thought maybe I needed to wait a little longer, but I didn't have much time. I tried to work quickly and as I removed the lid on the back of my phone I discovered that the battery had been taken out. At this point I could expect anything from this

monster. The evil he had matched perfectly with the strategy and thoughtfulness he put into this. I thought, he had been planning this for a while. Anything I thought of, he already messed it up for me. The only thing I could think of now was to make a run for the guest bedroom across the hall and hope those windows would be easily broken and jump. I could jump and hope for the best. If i die, at least I could..--maybe..- and that's when I saw it. In the midst of my crazy and suicidal thoughts, I saw the beast. Or part of him at least. I saw the eye of the devil himself watching me from the staircase. I was thinking so hard that I became unaware of the surrounding sounds. He had come quietly up the staircase and had been watching me this whole time. Underneath the half of his face, I could see a claw. Not like the type you'd see on a bird, more like the claws you'd expect to see on every demon in hell. His pale face and burning red eyes sent chills from my skull to the bottom of my feet. I felt myself get light-headed. Unlike I, he wasn't moving. He was perfectly still, almost statue-like. This made me even more frightened for some reason. He slowly started to reveal himself more and more until finally I could see the creature that had caused me so much distress. It was horribly pale. almost see-through. What got my attention was that one of his claws was much bigger than the other, significantly large. How did he get around with that thing? How did he kill Adam without me hearing anything? I looked over at the mirror and I waited for him to kill me from behind, like he had my father. I gave up. There was no escaping it. I noticed something else though. In the mirror there was nothing in the doorway. All I could see was me staring back at myself. I thought I was losing my mind so I turned back around to find the monsters ill-looking face inches away from mine. It was like staring straight into hell, those eyes. Then everything went black.
