Beep... Beep... Beep
I know that the constantly sound of the annoying little beeping machine should be comforting and, don't get me wrong, at some extend, it is. It allows me to know that she is still here, alive, breathing and fighting. However, no movie I've ever seen, no book I ever read and no story I ever heard mentioned how crazy-driving this little beeping could be.
So, let me tell you now. After two whole days, near to no sleep and more tears than I knew I could cry, this little machine is slowly taking away every ounce of sanity I have left in me.
And yet, the very simply idea of this annoying little beeping stops is enough for sending me into a full melt down.
Beep... Beep... Beep...
"... Beep... Beep..."
"Christina? What the heck are you doing?" I jumped in fright and whipped my head around to the direction of the voice. Katherine, who had been asleep on a further away chair that had already been occupied for several members of my family, was now awake and looking at me with a weird but worried look on her face.
My eyes quickly returned to the still girl laying on the uncomfortable looking bed and my shoulders slumped in defeat.
"I don't know, Kath" I sighed.
"... Sounds to me like you're losing your mind" There was a hint of an attempt of humor in my younger sister's voice and I forced a side smile on my lips at her efforts. Then I let out a breathy soft chuckle while shaking my head from side to side.
"Can't argue with that"
Kath and I were once again left in silence, the only sounds to be heard being the annoying little beep.
I reached out for the cold hand resting on the bed in front of me and carefully grabbed it, holding it gently into my bigger ones. My eyes studied carefully the unmoving body before then, just like they have been doing for almost every minute of the last couple days and, before I knew what was happening, the things around me started to become fuzzed and my eyelids became heavy.
I blinked quickly and tried to push the exhaustion away and into the back of my mind.
Beep... Beep...
...Beep...
...Beep... Beep... Beep
"Hm..."
"Chrissy... Christina wake up"
"Hmm..."
"Christina, wake up! I think she's waking up"
"What?"
"Hm... Hmm..."
My eyes snapped open wide quicker than ever and my head shout up so fast that my neck actually hurt a little.
