Prompt: That was the last time he would say that to anyone.
Hau x Gladion

Gladion sat up in the bed, the white sheets messily tossed to the side and started to dip off the side. The blond was holding tightly onto his wrist to calm him shaking hand while his eyes were locked onto the boy that slept silently next to him, occasionally turning and shifting in his sleep.
How'd he get into this mess? He didn't really remember, actually. Thinking back at it, it was just a blur. What was he supposed to do when Hau stomped into his rooms proposing a sleepover? Of course, he had said no in his normal blunt voice, but the other had insisted since Moon and Lillie had decided to bunk together, and he didn't want to be left out.
Hau was stubborn, so Gladion let him do what he wanted. He would just ignore him, he had first thought. Turns out ignoring Hau was easier thought than done. This kid didn't shut up, and it didn't help that he had close to no manners. Long story short, this idiot should be happy he didn't have to grow up under Lusamine.
Speaking of Lusamine, the main thing that kept Gladion awake was all the questions. Cosmog, the Ultra Beasts, Lillie.. The day had been hectic, and Hau wouldn't stop asking for clarifications on what actually happened in mothers room. Whenever the other would pause eating his malasada and ask a question, and giving off puppy eyes until he got an answer annoyed him in the slight, but he didn't say. He didn't know any answers himself, all he knew is that if something wasn't done, all of Alola would be in danger. So that's what he told Hau, and seeing his normal smile fade generated a feeling of guilt in him. Was he too blunt? Not seeing a smile on Hau's features was.. Weird.
Gladion flinched slightly as he watched Hau slip his half eaten malasada back into the bag he had brought from the room Wicke had offered him. The blond frowned and looked down at his hands that were starting to shake. He hadn't want to upset him, that hadn't been his intentions.
The room was silent until Hau stood up from his place on the floor and sat on the end of Gladion's bed, his usual goofy smile. Gladion just stared.

"Hey, Gladion?" Hau's sudden words surprised Gladion that he almost choked on his spit.
After pulling himself together, he focused his attention back to other, his gaze locked on his carefree expression. How'd he stay so happy?

"What is it," Gladion replied, coldly and quickly, "If this is another question, then you know the answer."
This remark made the smile vanish for a moment, much to Gladion's dismay, but the beaming smile returned, except this time it seemed nervous. Hau's hand reached up and started to untie his messy green hair from it's ponytail, and allowed the hair to flow down. Gladion wasn't so surprised over how messy it was, the bedhead style fit him.Gladions thoughts were interrupted by Hau's next string of words. He almost wanted to choke.
"Are we friends?" It was a simple question, but it seemed grim to be coming from Hau's mouth. Gladion had no answer, he just stayed silent. The blond dug through his clustered thoughts, and he was surprised when he felt his lips opening to say
"Yes."This was the first time someone had ever asked that to him, and this was also the first time he had replied. Hau paused for a moment at his reply, but a huge grin slapped itself onto his face's features. The green haired boy scooted farther onto the bed to the point he was next to Gladion, and then things went to normal. Hau went back to his malasada, that was all over the bed now, and continued with his over dramatic stories. This time, Gladion didn't mind to hear him talk. Not even an hour later, Hau had slid into sleep right next to the blond, much to his embarrassment. He didn't want to push him off, or even wake him up for that matter, so Gladion let him be. The sound of the two boys gently breathing filled the quiet Ather room, and for the first time in the long time, Gladion felt safe, but he couldn't itch the embarrassment that had stabbed his chest.

It was settled. This would be the last time he told anyone he was their friend.
