Raine

The girl in my head sent me a message today. So, I'm texting back and forth with her.
I'm beginning to sound more insane every day.
I sit at the group's lunch table, taking small bites of my tuna sandwich and tapping  on my phone screen.
Girl - I see you're sitting beside Paige.
Me - I always sit here
          Girl - Maybe you shouldn't.
          Me - Why?
Girl - You never know what she could be up to. She could be planning your loss at the competition tomorrow.
Me - But u said u would help me win
Girl - And you will win. But Paige doesn't think you will. She thinks she'll win the Spelling Bee, and then she's going to rub it in your face. She acts like she wants you to win, but she wants you to lose. She wants you to lose because she's selfish.
Me - How do u know that?
Girl - I can read her mind, too.
          Me - Oh...
Me - So, she does want me to lose?
Girl - Yes, very much so.
Girl - Now, you'd better not let her see these messages. The bell will ring soon, so delete these and put your phone away. Act completely normal, like none of this ever happened.
          Me - Ok
I delete the conversation and turn my cell phone off, just as I was told. And, sure enough, the bell rang out through the cafeteria. I stand, shoving my phone in my back pocket. Suddenly, I feel someone grab my arm.
"Raine, do you wanna hang out or something? We could go to the library like we always do." Paige invites, smiling innocently at me. I jerk from her light grip and glare at her.
"Why don't you go outside with your boyfriend and practice for the Spelling Bee?" I sneer, turning my back on her and strutting out of the cafeteria. Her expression looked confused and hurt, but it didn't bother me like it used to.
Taking my usual seat by the window in the library, I pull out my phone again. No new messages from the girl. I don't know why I want to speak with her so much. It's like a craving, a need to talk to her.
I furrow my brows as I stare at the screen, awaiting a text from her. My eyes light up when I hear the familiar notification tone.
Girl - Raine, may I speak with you quickly?
          Me - Ok
Girl - I'm becoming worried...there's been a strain on my power, and I don't know if I'm able to help your victory tomorrow.
Me - What kind of strain?
          Girl - That's not important.
Girl - Anyways, you must practice your spelling skill, just in case.
          Me - Homework? Ugh
Girl - Suck it up. It'll be worth it when you receive your reward.
          Me - Fine
Well, I guess it's time to hit the books.
