Breathe in, breathe out. Spryvern stretched his wings. A only a few weeks. How could such a short time feel like forever?
He tensed, readying his muscles for the powerful leap into the air. He sprang forward, feeling the strong rush of the wind under the membranes of his wings. The earth spread out before him, rocks and trees spilling forward in a tapestry of tans and greens and browns. She would be there, waiting. He knew that much.
The landscape rolled by faster as his wingbeats quickened with anticipation. He fell lower in the sky as he approached his destination. Spryvern's claws clicked on the stone as he landed. He climbed over the boulder before him, and looked over as he reached the top. There she was. The breeze played with her wild red hair as she held the necklace in front of her, her gaze fixed upon the beautiful silver dragon curled around its pendant. She lifted it, then closed her eyes as she let it fall down around her neck. Spry slipped down the boulder to rest at its edge. He watched the girl's perfect emerald eyes open, then connect with his own. A smile spread the sun's light across her face. He opened his wings and flashed her a smile of his own. She ran forward, and his wings closed around her once again, slipping around her in the warm embrace of a loving friend. In that moment, Spry was sure.
Neither of them were meant to be alone. The End
