"Thank you for purchasing your books at Waterstone's. Have a lovely day!" I said to the elderly lady on her way out of the store.
She smiled at me.
"Thank you, young lady... Tia?" she said squinting at my name tag.
Looking down, I internally sighed.
"No, my name is Kia - typo." I said with a forced smile. She smiled once again, and made her way out the shop doors.
I sighed. Today was slow. That old lady was the first person to enter the store within hours. Seems like no-one appreciated good old books these days. It's so boring. Especially when the rest of the staff are not in today. It was actually my day off but I need the money, therefore, I am the only one running the store on this lonesome day.
I sat down by the till and flipped out my black iPhone and checked Twitter. By checking my timeline, it seems like One Direction are back in the UK from all the "ermergerd's", "don't touch me" and "I can't even's".
I can't deny the fact that they're music is alright and they're pretty good looking too but their fandom has too much drama - in which I don't want to get myself into. So I secretly enjoy their music.
I put my phone away and make my way through the shelves of books. My hands brush over the books on the top row, until I find "The Fault In Our Stars" by John Green. I tug on the hard copy but it doesn't budge.
Huh.
That's weird.
I tug harder but it doesn't move. It's like it's resisting against me. I use all my force and pull then let go. I then heard a lot of banging and a gruff voice cursing. I rush around the book case to see a man in a hoodie with blonde hair and black shades on a pile of emptied boxes.
"Oh my stars, I'm so sorry!" I assisted him in getting up.
"It's fine, it's fine." he said in a thick Irish accent. Sounds familiar...
"Erm, are you okay?" I said awkwardly, brushing my brown hair away from my eyes.
"Yeah, I'm fine." he said adjusting his hoodie and facing away from me.
"It seemed like you really wanted to read that book."
"Oh yeah, sorry, I thought it was stuck or something." I replied hurriedly. "I'm Kia." I said sticking my hand out.
He glanced at me and started walking away from me.
"Wait, where are you going?" I asked him. He gave me one last glance before running out the door, leaving me to clear up the broken cardbpard boxes by myself.
"Well, that's just great, isn't it? Didn't anyone teach you manners?" I muttered to myself under my breath. Crouching down to start piling them up, my eyes wandered to a white iPhone on the ground. I grabbed it and ran to the entrance and shouted,
"WAIT! YOU FORGOT YOUR PHONE!"
But the mysterious guy had already vanished. I sighed and kept the phone next to the till. I started clearing up the mess and before I knew it, it was done. With The Fault In Our Stars under my arm, I went towards the till and sat down waiting for 7:30 to roll round. Opening the book, I read and read. I was so absorbed in the book, I didn't realize it was 7:30 already.
I then remembered the strangers phone. Maybe I should take it home? Leaving valuable items in the shop is against the rules. I might as well. I slipped the white iPhone in my shoulder bag before switching the lights off and locking up.
With my earphones in, I made my way to my Mini Cooper, started up the engine and made my way to mine and Jenna's apartment. Jenna had been in my class in nursery and we had been best friend's since.
Eventually, I got home and unlocked the door to see Jenna making out with her boyfriend Steven on the couch. I thought he was a professional slob and an animal but for some reason Jen found him unresistable. They had been going out for 2 months now. 2 months of that. Ew.
"Urgh. Get a room." I said walking through the door.
"Oh! Kia! I thought you were working late today!" Jenna said with a fluatered face glancing at a scowling Steven.
"And I thought I told you to use protection." I replied.
I looked at Steven in the eye. "You can leave now."
He looked at me and sloppily kissed Jenna and slapped her butt.
"Bye babe."
He walked past me as I held the door open for him.
"Bitch" he muttered underneath his breath. I smiled and slammed the door behind him.
"I don't see what you see in him, I really don't."
She sighed and readjusted her clothes.
"We've talked about this. Anyway, how was work?" she asked heading towards the kitchen.
"Weird. Some guy in a hoodie fell into some old boxes and ran off. He dropped his phone though." I explained, following her.
"Ooh, was he cute?" she asked, pouring a glass of orange juice.
"I don't know. I couldn't really see his face..." I answered frowning.
"Ah, well, what a day for you then. I wanted to tell you-"
Better than words
More than a feeling
Crazy in love
Dancing on the ceiling"Oh, that's my phone! I'm coming!" said Jen.
Did I mention that Jen too likes One Direction? Much to Steven's unapproval.
I sipped a bit of my orange juice.
"Hello? Hey baby. Yeah, I'm missing you too..." Jen's voice faded as she went out of the kitchen. I really don't trust that Steven. Knowing them, they'll be on the phone for hours.
I went into my bedroom and slipped off my uniform and stepped into my pyjamas. I then emptied my bag and saw the white iPhone. I put that on my bedside table and scrolled through twitter until I fell asleep.
