“Beep, Beep, Beep!” My alarm clock blares. As a natural instinct I grab it and pull the plug out of the socket. Still halfway asleep I pull my pillow from under me and put it over my head. “Pumpkin Pie, you have to get up, it’s your first day of middle school.” My mom coos from my doorway. “Mom,” I whine “that I did that when I was three.” I got that nickname from Halloween when I took the orange gunk out of my soonto be Jack-o-lantern and rubbed it all over my face. To this day my mom still calls me pumpkin pie. “You have to meet Daisy at the bus stop.” My mom says lifting my pillow from my head. “Hope, sweetie you have to get up.” I open my eyes and the world around me comes into focus. My Bright Orange room reflects the sunlight and temperedly blinds me. “Mom her name is Destiny!” My mom has never got her name right eventhough I talk about her all of the time. The worst part is we have been friends ever since kindergarten. “Yes I’m getting better!” My mom laughs. I roll my eyes jokingly, “Ok mom I’ll give you that!” I smile. My Mom smiles back, pats my head softly, and walks out my room so I can change. I’m wearing my Orange pajamas with only one sock. ”It must be in my sheets.” I think to myself while searching for an outfit. I search through my clothes and finally choose a pink cardigan over a white tank top and blue jeans.
I walk out my door and into the kitchen my Mom is sitting there in one hand some coffee and her newspaper she edits. She looks up at me and smiles her warm welcoming smile. “Oh Hope I have something for you!” I think about what she said. Then I blurt out “Please not another writing club!” Ever since I was able to write my mom wants me to be in anything that has to do with writing.“I thought you liked the writing clubs.” She whines. “No!” I blurt back in reply. She sighs ”No not another writing club. Think what you have always wanted.” I think and come up with an answer. “A phone!” I exclaim. “No a dog!”My mom walks into her room and comes back with a leash in hand. On the end of the leash is a golden retriever no older than a few months. “Well a puppy but it will grow into a dog.” My mom laughs. The puppy barks and my mom lets go of the leash. The fur ball runs to me with its cute little legs slipping on the tile floor. When it gets to me I bend down and pet it. ”Name her.” My mom grins.“I’ve always liked the name Rosy.” I tell her. She nods in agreement. “That’s a Beautiful name!” My mom smiles. “Where’s Dad?” I question my mom.
My mom looks at me. ”He’s asleep.” She answers. “Why don’t you wake him up?” Nobody’s really a morning person but my dad is more than not a morning person. Probably because he stays up late working so it won’t be a piece of cake to wake him. So I slowly walk to my parents room, and open the door like a sloth. “Dad, Good morning?” I have no idea what to say to wake him up without any problems. While my scared heart waits at the door I go and shake my father a little to pull him into reality. He jumps up and shakes me. “Do you like to be shook, because I don’t.” He screams. He jumps back into mentality and mumbles angrily going out to the kitchen.
I stand at their bed and watch my dad silently. I go into the kitchen and silently eat breakfast too shocked to talk.
Finally, when I am brushing my teeth and curly long hair I recover enough to talk. “Wow that was scary!” I laugh. I stare at my freckled face with my gold blonde hair and deep brown eyes. My dad has Brown hair and brown eyes while my mom has ocean blue eyes and dyed blonde. I sit there for minutes practicing smiles in the mirror. When I’m all ready tell my mom goodbye and she wishes me luck hugging me gently but reasurringly before my leave. Excited for the day to come I race out the door into the cool air.
