WREN
Locked in a chrysalis,
Wings pulled tight.
The otherwordly
Thump
Thump
Thump
Of a barely beating heart
Playing its solemn ballad
To the sun as she
Reaches her pale yellow fingertips
Through the bars and
Into my cell.
The runoff from last night's rain
Still dribbles in.
Drip
Drip
Drip
A madman's lullaby,
A clock counting down.
Screams come from the world above,
And down here the creatures wail,
Tendrils of night
Enveloping me
As though to protect.
Locked away,
Half an hour of life left,
I am suffocating.
Drip
Drip
Thump
Thump
A madman's lullaby.*NOTE: Wren's wings are actually more bat like than angel like*
