Dear diary,
Today was my first day at Applebroke School. I felt really worried about it, no friends to study with, life without Ella. But, maybe I would survive. It was a new beginning, as mum would say, but I don't thing 'new' was very me.
I took a deep breath and strode into the busy classroom. I had visions of me walking into the wrong tutor room, but I was sure the head master said M6.
There were lots of boys and girls my age, milling around the
room. Perched on tables, laughing. Until they saw me below the doorway, with my wavy blonde hair, casual jeans and Aztec top. Most people were eyeing up my squirrel messenger bag and pristine eye make up.
Everyone one was silent, I felt so small and venerable as I tried not to stare at my tutor group. Instead I took in the classroom, the smell of books and lemons, five tables and gritty brown chairs.
The middle aged teacher called everyone to their seats and beckoned me to the front of the room. She seemed alright for a teacher, but I wasn't sure about what she was wearing. I hesitantly stepped towards Mrs Child, glancing shyly at everyone around. Boys in denim jeans, girls in skirts, long jumper dresses and patterned tops.
"This is Nora Downing from London and she will be joining us this year. Take a seat next to Casey", she announced in a welsh accent. She pointed to a high ponytailed girl, chewing gum. I wiggled through tables until I reached Casey. She didn't look to pleased to be sat next to me, but there was nothing I could do.
Once I had taken my gum covered seat, Mrs Child started handing round small, coloured binders to file and keep note of any work or studying that needed doing. Most people chose red or blue, but I chose purple (because it's my favourite colour!) and Casey chose dark pink. Inside it was laid out like a diary, with the days of the week and pockets to put things in. Mrs child gave us some dates to writing in our binder and sent us off to our first lesson.
My first lesson was maths. My time table and school map directed me along to the first set of stairs and on the right. I swear everyone knew that I was new. But, I was older that everyone else so I took no notice. I wasn't the only new girl because the year sevens had started, but I still felt lonely.
No one had talked to me in tutor, no one wanted to be my friend. I entered the maths lesson and still no one would talk to me. Only a "could you pass the glue stick" or an "excuse me".
Maths was as boring as ever. I was sat in a dull classroom on a empty table. But I did enjoy using my binder.
Once maths was over...
