I sighed, glancing out of the frosted windows of the large insitute. I peered down at my black, leather boots, which were muddy, and splashed with blood-stains from previous missions. On a normal day, those stains would double as my new mission for the day proceeded. But there had not been any missions in over a month. Why? The institute was on lockdown. Which meant that no one was allowed out, or in. What that also meant was that I couldn't see Magnus. Magnus had called a total of 7 times yesterday, but each call was hesitatingly dismissed, because the rules of a lockdown included no communication from outside the institute. Oddly, even though the extent of how much I missed him was considerably bad, we had only been dating a week or so before the lockdown took effect. But it was starting to feel like every conscious second without him drained a small percentage of my very life. As I slowly strolled away from the freezing window, I gently raised my hand to my now numb left cheek; I had been leaning the entire left side of my left face against the bitterly cold window- pain for a solid five minutes, and had lost all feeling in it. I soon realized that my short, although frequent breaks that began last week, were a lot longer than five minutes. My sister, Isabelle lightwood, had grabbed me by the arm, and was now leading me and my pained face to the center of the building.
"Where do you think standing beside a frostbite-level-cold window for a half hour is going to get you?" Izzy said, glaring at me."What? I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was there that long. I really didn't," I said, in utter shock.
"It's not healthy, Alec. And besides. Doing that isn't going to magically spawn you into your boyfriends apartment."
"I know that, I just... I really miss him, Izzy."
"Clearly. Look. We all miss our downworlder friends. But until this stuff wth Valentine is taken care of, we all have to deal with it."
" Point proven. And taken."
When izzy was through parading me through the large crowds of people in the institute, Clary and Jocelyn came into view. All of the Shadowhunters
in the New York institute were present, which could only mean one thing. There was a meeting.
