before most of the Orphanage's security was sent out to fight the approaching Doves army the Kids spent hours planning for an escape, so one of the Kids, his name was Derek, decided to make the first move half an hour after they left, safely out of range of the alarm sound.  Derek was trusted by the Crows, so he was the only one of us that wasn't in a cell. he shut off all the power, giving us 5 minutes before the backup generators turned on.

all the cell doors opened allowing us to run. I didn't know where the door was but I trusted my nose to find the way. as I ran I changed into my true form. I passed people in a blur paying little attention to anything until I passed a man with dirty blonde hair lying on the ground, bleeding out. I couldn't let him die but as i got closer I realized it was Derek. I shifted back to a human and fell down at Derek's side.  One of the guards must have caught him as he was leaving the control room. I tried my best to block the bleeding but I knew there was no way for me to save him.

he knew it too.

Derek grabbed my arm and told me that it wasn't a guard that caught him, but one of the Kids. This Kid thought that trying to escape would be foolish, so he wanted to stop it before it started. bit of a teachers pet if you ask me. Derek didn't know the name of the man that betrayed him, but he told me what powers he had. I promised him I would avenge him if it's the last thing I did. he thanked me and told me to find our mother.

"Hound, I need you to find our mother and tell her I forgive her"

"wait what -"

but he was already gone.

it was at that moment i vowed to devote my life to find our mother and the man who betrayed my brother. I vowed to never love, to never feel, to never trust, and to never get distracted.

Derek's death will not be for nothing.
