Black History Month is a very important time to me. It's one month out of the whole year that's set for people of color. The thing that makes me mad is that we don't celebrate it at public schools but yet we discuss things such as The Holocaust, Columbus finding America ext. I'm not, by any means saying that those typical times of history aren't important but don't teachers think our history, my history is important also? I question things like this all the time. Teachers or even people in the community acknowledge certain events that didn't even occur in America, but slavery, burnings, and torment occurred on our very own streets but yet nothing happens in schools or even communities to celebrate that things like this aren't occurring any more, as so they say? Obviously not. It's sad that I have to learn about things that have no relation to me in school and teachers won't even take the time to put together simple projects for the month of February? Yeah slavery is over, but I believe certain characteristics that were during that time still exist this very day.

All we ask for is one month and it's sad we can't even get that.
