AN: Keep this in mind, I'm not really up to date with NDRV3, I only have a basic grasp of the characters, and I read off the wiki for this, so please forgive any mistakes ^^; As before, no honorifics because I can't really use them correctly. I don't really know if that cage area has windows or not, so I'm assuming not.

For Tekutokiariku

Prompt: Winter

AU(s): No killing, but they're still trapped in Gifted Inmates Academy.

---------------------------------------

Harukawa was standing in the open grassy field, which was covered by a layer of snow. It was winter, and it was... pretty cold, actually. The Monocubs had previously given them winterwear (jackets, boots, etc) but Harukawa's had disappeared, somehow, except for the gloves. She didn't want to bother anyone, so she had to suck it up. She admired how the snow crunched under her shoes, and that the snow wasn't pouring down like a storm. She has had multiple bad experiences from snowstorms.

"Yo, Harumaki!" Momota shouted from behind her. She looked back, to see Momota with his usual attire, the only difference was that his slippers were exchanged with the boots that were given out. "What are you doin' out here?" "The winter here is milder than it is where I used to live." "Yeah, it's probably because of those bears, or something!" "Kaito, the Monocubs can't control weather." "If they can make this whole school for us, then they sure as hell can make it snow! With, like, machines or something!"

Harukawa sighed. "Look up," She pointed to the sky. "and tell me if you see any machines." "Well, what if they're just hidden?" "Kaito, they wouldn't put machines up there." "Maybe it's storming outside, but because of the machines, the snow isn't pouring down!" "Kaito." "Maki, I'm tellin' ya, the snow isn't natural!" "Don't tell me you actually tasted it." "...I did." "Kaito, what if it was poisoned?" "I... didn't think about that." One of the Monocubs waddled towards them. Judging by the color, it's Monofunny. "I told the other members that poisonous snow wouldn't be very nice for you kids, so the snow is lychee flavor. Don't eat too much, or you'll get sick." The Monocub waddled away, disappearing.

"Anyway... Maki, doesn't the snow look pretty?" "It does." They could faintly hear the sound of loud shouting in the hallways, and Monokuma talking. ...Of course, the cold started to get to Harukawa, who started shivering. "Whoa there, you alright, Maki?" "It's just cold." He put his jacket around her. "Is that better?" "Yes. Thank you." "Well, if it's cold, we could go back inside so you don't catch a cold or anything." "No, no, it's fine." "You sure?" "Yes." "Okay then, Maki." They both looked at the sky, the reminder that the outside world did exist... but they were just given a communal school life in this academy.

Tojou shouted from inside the hallway, "Come to the dining hall, lunch is ready!" She ran off, presumably to tell the others. "Maki, I'm gonna go to the dining hall. You comin'?" "I'm not hungry, but Tojou might hunt me down if I don't come." "Yo, if you don't eat regularly, you might get sick, Maki." "I won't." "As your closest friend, I don't want you to get sick! Now c'mon!" He grabbed her by the hand, and speed-walked to the dining hall. When they got there, not very many people were there yet. Saihara and Akamatsu were chatting, Kiibo and Ouma were sitting together, and Shinguuji was looking at them from a distance.

They both took their seats, and watched as everyone else filed in. When Tojou finished counting heads, she passed out the plates, which were already filled with food. Each person got different food, which were suited to their tastes. ...Except Kiibo, since he can't really eat. He just wants to be like a normal high school student, so he just sits at the table. After a few minutes, Iruma piped up, saying how she could "whoop all your asses in a snowball fight." Kiibo reprimanded her on her language, while Tenko commented that Iruma probably wouldn't even win if she didn't use machines. Eventually, Monokuma, being the asshole he is, decided to tell everyone to fight with snowballs in the open field area.

Kaito asked if he and Maki could be excused from the fight, since Maki didn't have her gear, and Kaito would make the teams uneven, but Monokuma said, "Too bad, you still have to join in!"

So, for the rest of the day, the students of Gifted Inmates Academy had fun throwing snowballs at eachother. And Maki got sick, but that's a story for another day.
