It started off like any other day but with that one feeling of something bad was coming, but I just ignored it. I wondered what the day would bring so I thought of this as I walked to school. On my way there was someone selling a mask; it looked really breathtaking. The mask had a small mouth, big eyes, no hair. The skin was white with sallow cheeks. The paint was not falling off but chipped, the weirdest part of it was that it had a single bloody tear running down its cheek. I had just enough money to get it so I did. When I got to school everybody admired it. I put it in my locker and went to class. At the end of the day it looked as if the mask had moved. I just brushed it off and thought I had bumped it. I went home I put it in my room, did my chores, ate supper, and got ready for bed. That very night things started to happen. In the middle of the night I woke up to the sound of something moving. I looked around my room. All I could see was blackness and then I saw my mask floating. I could catch glimpses of it moved closer. I thought it was a dream so I did what normal people do to make sure they were awake and pinched myself and yep, I was awake so I turned on my lamp and in the split second it took my eyes to adjust to the light the mask dropped to the floor as if it wasn't floating. I got up and put it back. I didn't think anything of it and thought it was a hallucination. I went back to sleep. When I woke up the mask was in the same place so I went on with my business. Since it was the weekend I went to show the mask to my best friend Kendra. Everybody called her Kenny though. I told Kenny what was happening. She thought I was making it up to scare her. I told her to take the mask with her to her house. She did and that night I had a good sleep and when I woke up in the morning it was sitting on the end of my bed and asked Kenny if she had the mask she said she had lost it. I told her where I had found it. She believed me now. I tried to sell it but found it at the end of my bed and heard the kid I sold it to was found dead. The cause of death was unknown, they say it looked like he had the soul sucked right out of him. I freaked out. Was that going to happen to me, I thought. I forgot to mention there was one person who didn't like the mask. Her name was Heaven. She said she looked into the mask and found that it was a nightmare itself. I didn't know what to do with the mask so I just put it in my closet. When I woke up it was sitting on the end of my bed. Alright. I was so scared there were no world to describe what I was feeling . The mask was stalking me. What was I supposed to do? I couldn't come up with a logical explanation for why it would be floating in the middle of the night. I just decided that the mask was trying to get me. I talked to Heaven at school. She said that the monster behind the mask was called a shadow. She said the only way to get rid of it was to have it kill you. I refused to believe it, I wasn't going to die over a stupid mask with a shadow behind it. I had to get rid if it a different way. Again I couldn't think of anything logical to do. The next time I had the mask I tried to think of a way it couldn't hurt anyone else. A week went by and strangely nothing happened but then it got worse instead of waking up the sound of it moving it would hurt me to get me awake. Once I woke up and couldn't breath, I looked up I saw the mask just floating there, I felt hands around my throat they were squeezing. It didn't kill me or I wouldn't be here telling this story. As the days went on, the creature kept getting meaner and meaner. The next time it tried choking me. I reached up and grabbed the mask and it stopped. That got me thinking, my ending result was it couldn't attack without that mask, so I called Kenny and Heaven to get over to my house as soon as possible. When they got there I told them the plan. They thought it would work. That night when it was pitch black we started. First I took the mask and was going to burn it outside. The shadow caught the mask before I could get out. Heaven grabbed the mask and ran toward the door it tripped her and she dropped the mask. That is where Kenny came in she took the mask and put it in the fire. The creature, although we could not see it, let out the most terrible screech but we knew it was over. The next day I had to go to school and there was the same man selling something I looked over his shoulder. There it was the mask looking at its next victim.
