1 year later...

"Wanna come with us?" Dakota asked. "I know you like scary movies so, you can join us. Plus it will be good for the new girl to, you know, make friends."

I was honestly surprised when she asked me that. I wasn't the most attractive, in my opinion, and I was the new girl at Cedar Crescent High, and I'm pretty quiet in school. But, if its for a movie and not staying home with my sad self then yes.

"Okay. Ill join you." I paused, "Who else is coming?" I really didn't want to be alone with this Barbie. She had long blonde hair, auburn eyes, a face covered in foundation, and her boyfriend literally reminds me of Ken. But if her friends joined maybe it wouldn't be too awkward.

"Me, you, Rachel, and maybe Daren." I'm guessing Daren is her boyfriend. Rachel is the short girl with the dirty blonde, neck length hair. "And feel free to invite one of your...people." I took offense to the way she said that. It was as if my friends were objects to her. In my opinion she was more like the object.

"Alright. If she wants, I'll invite Sam." Suddenly, I got really angry.

Dakota scoffed. "Her? She has a really dyke name. You two aren't dating are you?" I frowned.

"Are you serious? Like are you fucking kidding me?" I wanted to slap her. There were so many thoughts running through my head telling me to slap this girl. Right here. Right now.

She smiled. "Hey calm down. I was kidding! Forgives?" She asked, making some sort of pleading expression.

Is this how they joke around? Whatever. I've always been a pretty laid back person.

Ever since...

I pushed the memory out of my mind. That memory has always been pretty blurry. At first it wasn't. Then, I wanted to forget everything, so I mentally wiped away the dust and dirt and started over with my life. I now have a new family. Fortunately, I was only in the orphanage for a few months. Then a nice family with a 5 year old son and two mothers, came along and took me in to their small but good enough home. I sleep in the basement, which is a pretty nice basement actually. And Cody, who is now six years old, sleeps right above me. I am not interested in family bonding but I am polite to them. Unlike some kids who have foster parents.

"Fine. But don't say anything like that in front of us again, if you will, please respect us. I'll have you know we both have gay parents." She nodded.

The two differences in Sam and I's parents is that her parents are men, while mine are women. And also she has one of her dad's DNA, a sperm doner of course.

"Alright see you tonight, meet us at the front of the theatre at 7:15pm. The movie is at 7:25pm." She said, flicking her hair with her long fingers.

"Got it." I said. As I started walking away, she stopped me.

"Hey, Connie. Just a few words of advice, girl to girl, you're pretty attractive, you should keep your chin up more often. And, maybe do your hair more, I so wish I had that hair color." She started playing with the tips of my hair.

I was a little confused. My hair isn't that special. Its average length and cherry brown. I don't hate my hair. But I don't love it. There's a lot of things I don't love about myself.

"Thank you. I like your hair too." Oh my God. That was the best I could think of? Wow. She smiled and nodded.

"Okay. See you tonight!" She walked off. Her walk made me want to laugh out loud. She was literally walking like she was on a runway. Whatever. That was pretty nice of her to say.

...

"Hey Sam. Get your ass over here." I said, plopping down on our sofa.

"Oh. Hello and my day was good too." She sarcastically slurred.

"No I'm serious. I'm going to the movies with a few people tonight. They said they'd invite me because they thought I'd like an 'edgy' movie. Because apparently I'm 'edgy'." I laughed. Sam chuckled too. "And they said I could bring someone." I added.

"Who is this 'they'." She asked.

"Dakota and her worshipers." I joked. "Listen, I know what you're gonna say. But I really don't feel like staying home alone and I've been wanting to see Red Butterflies for a while now." I prayed she wouldn't decline.

She sighed. Then I remembered she gets scared of movies like that. "Fine."

I almost screamed. She seriously hates horror movies.

"Wait really?"

"Uhm yeah! I'm not leaving you alone with those creatures. They might infect you." We both laughed.

Apparently, at Sam's old school she was bullied for years by the popular kids. So she had a huge grudge against them.

Its her problem. She's the one with a grudge.

What? No I should help her through it! What a selfish thought.

"I really appreciate it babe." Oops I hope she didn't take that the wrong way.

"No problem." She didn't sound bothered. "When do we meet up?"

"They said 7:15pm. And the movie starts at 7:25." I paused. "And I know what your thinking. I checked the website. Their not lying."

"How do we even know they'll show up?"

"They're not gonna mess with us. Ms. Barbie was majorly kissing my ass today. It was a little weird."

"Which is exactly why we should be cautious."

"You're being paranoid, Samantha."

"Okay Constance." She laughed. She knows I hate my full name.

"Now. Come over." I said.

"Alright I'm putting my shoes on, later babe." She said, and hung up.

No. We're not dating. And no we don't like each other. I think.

...

"Ready?" I asked. We were sitting in my Jeep putting on a light layer of makeup.

"Ye.....s. Yes."

"Alright." I turned the key and stepped on the gas and we headed up the road to the movie theatre. I live pretty close to the theatre. Maybe a mile or two away from my house.

When we arrived, we both sighed a sigh of relief when we saw Dakota and her friends lined up already.

When Dakota saw me she waved and beckoned for us to come over.

"Hey Connie! This is Daren my boyfriend. And Rachel, my best friend, if you didn't know that already." Daren looked past me and at Sam, obviously checking her out. What a douche. And right in front of his girlfriend. Luckily we were both wearing non-flashy clothes. I was wearing dark blue skinny jeans, a plain white tank top with a black and red flannel tied around my waist. Along with dark blue hightop Converse. My cherry brown hair was pulled up in a messy bun. Sam was wearing blue jean capris, a black hoodie, white low-top Converse, and her hair curly and short as always.

"Ready to go in?" Rachel asked.

"Hmm...are any of you getting snacks?" Dakota asked.

"Me and Sam are." I said.

"Oh okay. Well, Rachel and I are on diets. You should try it too." I frowned.

"Uhm. No thanks." I replied cooly and walked past Dakota and into the building.

I could feel Daren's pervy eyes on my ass as we walked in.
