Tessa sat on the couch, waiting for Cole to come. He said he was going to surprise her with something. Tessa never really liked Valentine's Day, it seemed like it was day her parents disagreed the most, and Trevor was never around, always stuck in his drunken daze. The only thing good about it was the chocolate. Oh and the kit kats, which was in a whole different category. She took a bite of the sour apple she had in her hand, and her face scrunched up. Woah, ok that's sour, she thought. Tessa set the apple down on the coffee table, and grabbed the remote. Surfing through the channels, there was nothing on but cheesy romantic soap operas. She clicked the TV off and flung the remote across the couch, "Ugh!" There was nothing to do, besides maybe read..."Nah." The only thing to read was her mother's novels and of course those are romantic. Rolling her eyes back and shutting them, she sunk into the couch and slouched in silence. She was about to fall asleep when she smelt this floral scent. Tessa sat up straight, and was looking around to see what caused the smell, when there was a creek of the floorboards. She jumped off the couch and looked towards the steps then towards the kitchen. Nothing was out of place, but the floral scent was still there. Maybe it's just my imagination, horror movies are messing with my mind. Then something occurred to her, "Cole?" She shouted, "Is that you?" No one answered. Tessa went to the closest beside the front door and grabbed the wooden baseball bat, or she would've if it was there. Dang it! She went to the couch to grab the next best thing, a throw pillow. Something caught her eye, wrapped in a shiny red package laided a Kit Kat. Her mouth dropped open, because that was for sure never there before. She slowly picked it up, and tapped to the back of it was a little note, Come and find me shortcake. Her brows pulled together in confusion. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a shadow move quickly across the darkened room. It went out the front door, and she quickly followed it, watching from the window as it ran down the sidewalk towards the local park. She grabbed her boots and a sweatshirt, and ran out the front door following the shadow, throw pillow still in hand. Tessa kept calling out to the shadow, but it got faster until it was running, Tessa pick up her pace trying to keep track of it, "Hey! Stop Running!" Gah! She thought. They ran all the way to the park, Tessa trying to regain her breathing, stopped at the edge of the park. The moonlight shining on her making her visible in the dark. Tessa lifted her head and stood straight, trying to look for the shadow, but couldn't see it. Dammit! She was about to head back when she felt a tall figure behind her. Tessa gripped the throw pillow hard, and swung it backwards at the person behind her, smack it, or should I say him in the face.
"Ow!" Tessa recognized that voice.
"Cole?" She whisper-yelled, "What the hell?"
"What? I wanted to surprise you. Damn you got one hell of a swing." He rubbed his forehead.
Mad, Tessa lifted the pillow again, and hit him over and over again.
"Hey! Hey! Okay!" He yelled, trying to block his face.
"How. Dare. You. Make. Me. Run!" She said in between hits.
Cole caught the pillow from her hands, and threw it out of reach. He grabbed her and pushed her down on the ground, pinning Tessa. He placed a arrogant smile on his face, "I'm sorry, Shortcake. I just wanted to surprise you."
She huffed out and said, "Get off of me Cole."
"Mm, I don't...I kinda like this." Tessa's cheeks flamed.
"Get off of me, jerk." She said with no real bite in her words.
"Jerk? I like it when you talk dirty to me."
By now, Tessa's cheeks were as red as tomatoes, but Cole got up anyways. He extended his hand to help her up, and bought her to his chest.
He brushed her lose blond hair back, and cupped her cheek. If you were looking at them, it'd look like they were about to kiss, but Tessa bit her tough, "You got grass stains on my sweater." She said, and Cole chuckled. They let go of each other and Tessa walked up to the railing that look out onto a beautiful scenery. Cole came up behind her with a picnic basket. "Surprise!" He grinned.
"Oh my god, you really did have a surprise," she grinned.
Cole spread a blanket out on the ground and both them sat down, Tessa laying on Cole's chest. Reminds me of the night we spent on the beach, she thought. Cole pulled out a bunch of chocolate from the local convenience store, "Does this make up for making you run?" He said sarcastically
"Yes it does, now gimme my Kit Kats." She tried to grab it, but he pulled it out of reach.
"Ah aha!" He had a glimmer in his eye. "To get chocolate, you have to earn it."
"And how's that?" She snide. His lip lifted up in a smirk, his signature smirk.
"Kiss me." Tessa's jaw dropped.
"I'm sorry you want me to what?!"
"You heard me, kiss me."
"Know what? I'm ok with out the chocolate." Tessa lied, she wanted her Kit Kat but she knows there was no getting past him.
"Okay..." he said mockingly, he opened the rapper and snapped a piece, Tessa narrowed her eyes at him, "you wouldn't dare."
Still smiling, he took the piece of chocolate goodness (Tessa's words, not mine) and took a bite out of it. Tessa gasps. With quickness, she swiped the rest of the Kit Kat away, and elbowed Cole when he tried to reach for it.
"Cmon shortcake, that wasn't very nice." He pouted.
"Oh you do it to me all the time!"
"Ok you've given me no choice, shortcake."
"What--" her words were cut off when, he started to tickle her. "Stop!" She screamed in between bursts of laughter. "You know I hate to be tickled!" She dropped the chocolate, and he grabbed it back.
When Tessa turned onto her back, She nearly knocked her head into his. There lips inches apart, he stared into her eyes. Her lips parted slightly, and his gaze moved to them. Tessa, frozen in place slightly prayed that he would just kiss her. He must of seen the approval in her eyes, and he lightly placed his lips on hers. She deepened the kiss. Wrapping her arms around his neck, he swiftly bought her up, not breaking the kids and she straddled him. After a little less than a minute, they both came up for air. They stared at each other in shock, and she jumped off of him, setting herself beside him.
For the rest of the night they didn't talk about what had happened, no, they made jokes, and picked on each other. When Tessa grew tired, Cole packed up the picnic basket and they walked home together, Cole stayed the night of course, and well, what happened in the morning is another story for another time.
