I woke up with a pounding head ache and Kennedy's foot in my face. Seriously? She did that on purpose. Damn weirdo.
I got up prying Andrea's arms from around me. Stretching I walked to the bathroom to brush my teeth. Half way through my phone chimed. Walking back into the room I heard Kennedy mumble, "Five more minutes mom."
I snickered to myself while unlocking my phone. I had three texts from Laurel. I wonder what she needs.Laurel: Good morning beautiful
Laurel: I have a surprise for you
Laurel: Hmm maybe she's sleeping🤔😅😅
She's so adorable. I honestly would've expected way more texts from Laurel.
Kenzi: Good morning Laur
Laurel: Sorry about all the texts😳
Kenzi: It's ok sweets, I think it's cute
Laurel: Hee I was just bored and I started thinking about you
Kenzi: I understand, so what's my surprise?
Laurel: Oh yeah, I was wondering if you'd like to go on a picnic with Blake and I
Kenzi: Oh I would love to L, but I'm with my friends this weekend
Laurel: Oh ok...
Kenzi: I'm gonna see if they wanna go on the picnic. How about that?
Laurel: That's great I'll talk to you soon about it
Kenzi: Ok bye honey
Laurel: Bye😘
A picnic with Blake and Laurel sounds great. I hope Andrea and Kennedy would be ok with it. Was it a good idea for them to meet Laurel? I mean I wanted them to know about each other. But was I ready to tell the girls about what's going on between Claire, Laurel, and I.
I was thrown out of my thoughts by a loud yawn from Ken. "Good morning sleepy head," I laughed sitting back down on the bed. "Morning," Kennedy grumbled. I shook Andrea awake. She moaned rubbing her eyes.
"Hey guys I was wondering if y'all wanted to go on a picnic with this girl I've been seeing, Laurel, and her son, Blake," I said hopefully. Andrea and Ken both shot up in disbelief. "You're seeing someone?" Andrea asked incredulously. "She has a demon?" Ken gasped. I laughed at their reactions.
"Yes I'm seeing someone, and yes she has a kid," I said getting up to get them some water. "Where did you meet her Kenzi?" Andrea questioned curiously. "She's Zachary's English teacher," I said handing them the water. "Really?" Ken said slapping me. "Does that mean she's old?" "No!" I yelled at her. "I was just asking," Ken laughed.
"How old is her son?" Kennedy questioned. "Five," I sighed. Ken groaned, "Oh no I don't like kids I'm not going." I shook my head giggling. She never liked kids. Since we were young she always said that her kids would have to live behind a book shelf.
"Well I'll definitely go," Andrea said hugging me. "Thanks Andrea, but there is more to the story," I stated. "Don't tell me her husband is a deranged serial killer out to get you," Ken sighed exaggerated. "No you weirdo," I said rolling my eyes. "Then what," Andrea laughed hard with Kennedy. "I'm dating someone else too," I whispered.
"MCKENZIE!" they both yelled in unison. I flinched away from them. "Great my best friend is a hoe now," Ken said flopping back in the bed. I gasped, "No it's not like that." "Then how is it kid?" Andrea said rubbing her temples.
I told the girls the whole story. They watched me intently. Ken had so many questions that made me laugh.
"So this Claire girl how old is she?" Ken asked. "She's twenty-seven, and Laurel is thirty," I said lying in Andrea's lap. "Wow they are cougars," Kennedy gawked. "Hey," I said kicking her. "I only speak the truth," Kennedy said placing her hands up in defeat. Andrea massaged my scalp asking, "Do you have pictures of them?"
I grabbed my phone going straight to my camera roll. Scrolling to my favorite picture I handed the phone over to Andrea. "This is Claire.""Where was this picture taken?" Ken asked examining my phone. "Her apartment," I said picking my finger nails. "She's really pretty," Andrea said. "I know right," Kennedy said passing my phone back. I smiled. It's great that they are understanding of what's happening. I looked through my phone again only to give it back to the girls. "That's Laurel."
"She looks like a dork," Ken said passing the phone. "She is," I giggled. "Awe she's adorable," Andrea fawned.
"So are you sure you're not gonna come Ken?" I asked hopefully. "No I don't care how wonderful Laurel is I don't do kids," Ken said getting up from the bed to go down stairs.*****
Andrea and I got to the park at around twelve. When we got there we found Laurel watching Blake play on the monkey bars. I walked up behind Laurel wrapping her in my embrace. "Hey sweets," I whispered kissing her neck. Laurel turned around quickly smiling warmly at me. She gave me a peck on the lips.
Andrea coughed trying to get our attention. "Oh Laurel this is my best friend Andrea," I introduced. They shook hands saying hello. "Well one of her best friends," Andrea laughed, "Kennedy would've come but she doesn't do kids." Laurel laughed along with her, "Oh that's ok I understand my former husband wasn't really a kid person at first either."
Andrea and Laurel got along very well. While they continued their conversation I walked over to Blake. He was a very handsome boy. His skin was a little tan, his hair long and soft, it was a light brown almost blonde color, and he was quite tall for his age.
"Hi there Blake," I said smiling. "Hello," Blake acknowledged me while continuing his journey on the monkey bars. "Has your mommy told you any thing about me bud?" I questioned. Blake jumped down facing me, "Just that your name is McKenzie, and you are a really good friend of hers."
"I see," I said poking his stomach, "I wanna be good friend with you too kid." The boy smiled at my words. "Do you wanna play hide and seek with me?" he questioned with a twinkle in his eyes. "Of course I would," I said following him.A.N. Sorry for the long wait. I have been super busy with school and family problems. I have also had some mild writer's block. I promise I will start updating more often. <3
