Lila

___________________________________________________________________________

I gnawed at my nails as I turned the page of my magazine

"Lila, if you keep picking at then  all your fingers are going to be are bloody stumps," I glanced up.

My young sister Lexi stood at the counter stack of cds in he hands.

I sighed and shook my head. "and you'll be walking everywhere if you don't  save up some money for a car."

she smiled sweetly "sis, we live in the city, public transportation's where its at,"

"if by it, you mean random teenagers feeling eachother up, and the potential for the movie contagion becoming a reality, then yes, public transportation is where it's at," I replied taking the cds from her hands and scanning them  one by one.

she stuck her toungue, so I looked away to see karah, and michael walked out ( since when are they so chummy?)

"Lila!"  I looked back to lexi who was trying not to laugh.

"What," I snapped wiping the grin off her face.

"So what's his name?" she asked the smile slowly creeping up her lips again as if a cat playing with a mouse.

'Why, whoever do ya mean," I asked innocently adding a honey sweet southerndrawl to my tone.

"that new worker you're smitten over" she replied.

my face fell flat and so did my voice "I beg your pardon,"

"I saw him and karah walkin out I didn't get an all too good look, however what i did was damn fine," I reached over and smacked her behind her head.

"watch you tongue! you don't need to say shit like that  it'd disrespectful to me and any elders you still have.'

"YOU CUSS ALL THE TIME!" she exclaimed.

"yeah but I'm in my 20s and living alone,"

'real-- Lila you're changing the subject,"

"look there's no way in helll or heaven of earth or even val-fuckin-hala that I like micheal. add your cds are gonna be 62.57."

she pulled out a birrage of crinkled singles "63 exactly," she paused "she doth protest to much, sis"

Michael

Karah and I stood at walmart staring at the hair dye section.

"you'd make a cute blonde. you're pale and blue eyed enough to pull off arian. plus lila love princess bride's wesley," krah said pulling forth a box of blonde hair dye.

"yes because that's exactly what I need lila running around telling me 'farm boy do this' plus i've never really been a as you wish kind of guy," I replied putting it back on the display. "what's lila got to do with this anyway?"

"oh that's easy! you're in love," she replied grabbing a light brown color then placing it in my hands. i froze as karah walked away. she turned back to look at me "did I strike a nerve?"

"Me? in love with her? you've got to be joking." I rebuked catching up with her.

"I'm not. you two are crazy, and 'crazy'  being the main thing here, about each other. you're just both fucking idiots about it."

"I don't love she's bat shit cra--"

"for one don't talk about my best friend that way, even if it is true, and two that's what you like about her."

"and how do you know this?"

"because I've dated so many yous i'm able to pick it out."

"mes?

"guys like you. the antogonistic type. you like to get out a rise out of people so, you date someone who's feathers are easily furled, and since Lila is a big ball of pent up vengeful anger, parental neglect and abuse, and just plain old crazy you like her,"

"I don't ,"

" you do," she replied.

"I don't!"

"then why are you getting so angry? tell me michael, how many times have you thought about lila since  staying in our building?"

 I didn't answer

"that's what I thought," she snapped walking over to me and taking the little box from my hands "i'll see you back at the store."

I sigh "FUUUCK!" I groaned

"micheal?," an all too familiar voice asked.

I stopped and looked over to the voice.

oh shit.
