"Where are you heading to at this time?" With his palm holding the doorknob, Jeongguk sighs, looks back to his mother standing, asking for an answer. Her voice isn't dominant, it's weak, questioning and worried. "It's almost dinner time, dear." She's pleading without using the actual words but the tone. She knows it's not possible for her to make Jeongguk do things by force. He's a big boy, almost seventeen years old. Only mutual understanding and proper talk can make him obey her.
Jeongguk looks at his wristwatch, "it's only eight, mom. I'm just meeting my friends. I'll be back in an hour." He's ready to leave, he's not in for another of her long lectures about him going late and not studying. He just needs to get some fresh air and maybe some beer.
"Please don't drink."
"What?" Jeongguk stares at her, offended and amused, never has his mother ever told him so. He was aware that his mother already knew but never had he thought she'd confront him about it. "What the fuck did you just say?" His body language, as well as his words, get violent and he instantly hates himself. He has never yelled at her mother ever.
"Jeon Jeongguk," Mr Jeon speaks out as he comes out of the kitchen. He has an apron around his waist. Jeongguk's eyes wander at his attire for a brief second but then his father speaks again. "Your grades have been nothing but going down. You go out late and come back reeking of alcohol. We've been saying nothing but you don't talk to your mother like that." His index finger is pointing at the boy and he's raged.
"I―"
Mr Jeon is walking towards him in slow strides, his face changing color and voice getting high. "You're always with your shitty friends who do nothing but roam around drinking, fucking and doing all that illegal crap." He breathes in a heavy breath, speaking the kept words. "You think we don't know? We've just been waiting for you to get out of it. We've been giving you a lot of hints that it's wrong, examples of what happens to children who go down the wrong lane, hoping you'd stop yourself like the grown-up you act like."
Jeongguk runs his hands through his hair and speaks in a low voice. "I do shitty stuff, I admit, but I don't have shitty friends." Although he's saying friends, he is only talking about one friend.
